I’ve never ‘got’ cryptic crosswords. So I don’t get it, sorry!

Worry = fret
Fret backwards (reflecting) = terf

The answer is “terf” because it is fret backwards i.e. reflected in crossword speak. One taking part in the culture wars is the definition part of the clue.
I don’t read the Guardian now personally since they are so pro trans ideology and I am not surprised that they think this is OK.

It's actually a poor clue because it's ambiguous as to what is to be 'reflected'. The solution is FRET.
