IWD something positive

Plas y Brenin have done a little video for international womens day I'd like to share. I know not everyone will be interested in the subject matter - women in the outdoors - but it covers some really relevant topics and recognises some of the invisible issues and barriers women feel and physically have. It also acknowledges this cognitive dissonance issue many have about recognising how gender stereotypes restrict them but also how they match those gender stereotypes / sex based barriers too. Its like recognising your weakness but not wanting to admit it's your weakness - well they do.

It talks about pink and clothing but not in negative ways either - it acknowledges 'well actually it's a bit of a complex ongoing and evolving relationship with pink and inadequate women clothing'.

Basically it's everything IWD should be covering. Without watering it down.

So yeah. Really impressed. And even if outdoor adventure isn't your thing I hope some of you watch and get how utterly positive it is.

More of this please!

I’ll watch this when I’m home tonight @RedToothBrush, but my something positive is that my local council invited my WRN group to take part in their IWD event. We had a lovely time, were very welcome & it was great to be included!

My positive thing for IWD is this photo I came across yesterday, in a report on camogie [women's hurling] - the joy and energy and strength of the winning manager and player make me smileSmile

My positive thing is that Radio 3 is playing music by women all day today. So many great pieces of various genres that are not known or rarely get played.

Disclaimer: I haven't checked the genitals of any of the composers or musicians

I'm listening to R3 now, I have a website open which gives the playlist in real time, and I'm seeing all these names of so many women composers I never heard of beforeSmile

It's been lovely so far @MarieDeGournay
I'm trusting the BBC that these women really are/were women.

There's an argument to be had that, if they're saying these women are lesser played, why don't they, as one of the world's most popular classical music broadcasters, play them then! Incorporate them into their playlists! Rectify the balance!
But I'm just enjoying the music for now 😊

Classic FM have got Katherine Jenkins presenting a program of music composed by women. I just hope none of them are the pretendy type women because I admit I wouldn't know if they were.
