£185 to prove you're a woman

£5 for a GRC

Grr, and why do women need these tests? Because men have fucked about and cannot be trusted to respect women or the women's categories and stop fucking about.

Women: please pay for the precautions men have made necessary. Another sex based binary burden.

Fundamental social belief innit? Men can't be trusted and are going to fuck around (literally and metaphorically), so if women don't want to be fucked with it's on them to control the risks men create.

Fuckers.

I don’t agree, women outperform men in a few sports, usually the ultra-endurance ones. Eg, the ultraruns and ultra cycling, swimming oceans, long distance sailing races, all shooting of all weapons types, equestrian events, gymnastics, free diving, rock climbing,

Equestrian events are dependent on the horse as well as the rider. I would not consider this as a group of events where female people have a physical advantage. It could have a great deal to do with the horse.

I actually don't get why anyone really needs tests at all.

I am no athlete, but I have had quite a few cervical smears before now. A nurse has looked directly at my cervix- for free!!!

That's simplifying it maybe. But I am quite bemused at everyone saying how intrusive it is to have these checks when smears are commonplace for most women.

At one point (1940s) female athletes had physical sex examinations, ie drop their pants in front of a doctor.

A blood test replaced that. Its ridiculous that it was ever dropped in the first place.

And it was dropped purely to allow male athletes with DSDs to compete as female people.

this is my timeline that I have put together.

And Dr Arne Ljungqvist features very heavily as a person who had great influence about the major decisions regarding allowing male people access to female sports.

I am conscious that the Break it Down for me thread is nearly full. I am therefore hoping that this thread can be an archive thread just for the sport...

Its just bonkers that female sport is back to where we were 80 years go.
Should be nothing controversial about females being females in women's sport.

SternJoyousBeev2 · 06/03/2026 17:21

The cynic in me thinks that this is a punitive ‘fuck you’ to female athletes who want to protect fair sport. Sports governing bodies have with few exceptions had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the side of fairness.

Who pays for drug testing?

Very good question.

But also, how can a simple cheek swab cost £180? If this cost £25 nobody would care.

GreenEyedFeminist · 06/03/2026 18:33

If you have girls in athletics contact British Athletics and ask why they’re discriminating against females. It’s blatant sex discrimination 🤦🏻‍♀️ The only reason cheekswabs are needed is because of men (and useless policies that allowed men into the female category). Why should women have to pay?

Needspaceforlego · 06/03/2026 18:50

Who paid when they did blood tests before?

Who paid when they did blood tests before?

It's a mix of sporting governing bodies, organisations like the IOC & WADA

@IrishSelkie Equestrian events are not separated by sex - they are mixed sex - so they are irrelevant for the purposes of this discussion.

I don’t see the problem.

Female sports could be protected with these tests. All that needs to happen is that the country the female comes from foots the bill
for that female’s test.

It’s pretty obvious why males in male sports don’t need it. It’s because males are faster, stronger etc and so females aren’t going go make it into the Olympics (or whatever competition it is) in the male category. It isn’t relevant to male sports - so the thread title is really odd.

I think it needs to be funded through international sports foundations and organisations, I can imagine a few countries where using the excuse that they can’t afford to test women at grassroots levels, which is probably what will be needed ,means they fund fewer female athletes.
