Blackbelt Barrister is cross that Ms Phillipson hasn't pulled her finger out re: guidance and Trevor Philips is too.

I am too, although I'd say I'm a lot more than cross. 🤬

Thanks for the link. 👍

OP did you mean Bridget’s reluctance?

Thanks for the link.

Imnobody4 · 23/02/2026 11:33

Thanks for the link. Trevor was great.
Smug is exactly the right word her.

InconvenientlyMaterial · 23/02/2026 12:10

Thanks

I've not watched BBB before but my very switched on teenager likes him!

moto748e · 23/02/2026 12:39

He's good; I like him.

GrandmaMazur · 23/02/2026 12:54

Thank you. "Smug face" is a perfect description!

I’ll have to watch this now seeing your comments. I’ve been thinking she looks very smug for a while now.

If you report your own starter post OP you can use the reason box to ask Mumsnet to change Belinda to Bridget xx

MaggieBsBoat · 23/02/2026 14:57

I can’t see the name Belinda without thinking of Belinda Blinked!

I like BBB off to listen to thanks!

FranticFrankie · 23/02/2026 14:59

BBB is really good- must watch this
Thanks

tartyflette · 23/02/2026 15:02

It's very clear she doesn't like the guidance. I wonder why??...

FranticFrankie · 23/02/2026 15:19

Trevor was great- loved the bit " which I personally signed off" (and he's still looking good 😉)

Love Trevor but he was a bit cheeky there. Bridget would have had every right to come back at him with, "If you had done your job properly in 2011 then we wouldn't be in this mess."

Thanks to igmum on another Bridget Phillipson thread for the tip where to find the evidence that Trevor Phillips caved in to TRA lobbying to change the original 2011 guidance:

The Equality Act: 15 years old today!
8 April 2025

Is Bridget Phillipson now stalling for fear of credible threats to her life from TRAs? TRA modus operandi have changed a lot since they were sweet-talking Trevor Phillips in 2010.

The Equality Act: 15 years old today!

On 8th April 2010, the Equality Act received royal assent. The landmark new law drew together legislation addressing race discrimination, sex

Ha ha same! If you know, you know.....

Just watched this.

BBB is good, but he's conflated two separate things here.

The guidance that went to court (and was found to be lawful) is the interim update/guidance that was released in the days immediately following the Supreme Court judgment in April 2025. This includes workplaces, schools and services.

The guidance that BP is currently sitting on (with her apparently oh-so-thorough process.... an FOI to unpick this is a great suggestion) is the much larger body of guidance that a) hasn't been looked at in any court case and b) focuses solely on services.

He's right that she looks smug. He's right that she's delaying everything unnecessarily. But it's unhelpful to suggest that the court has validated the guidance that is being held up.

On the plus side, it really is just as simple as the interim guidance suggests for services and employers: if you've already decided that a service meets the single sex criteria, you can't then let in anyone of the opposite sex. And if you're an employer, you're legally obligated to provide employees with single sex facilities that are appropriate for the job (including changing facilities if changing on site is a requirement of the job). You can provide whatever you like in addition to this. What on earth is your reluctance to get the guidance out, Bridget?!
