Educational Psychologists Rejecting the School Guidance Around Single Sex Spaces

These are two senior educational psychologists, both involved in the training of EPs, this week discussing why children should use spaces based on gender ID not sex, why there doesn't need to be caution around social transition in schools and why Cass is wrong.

This is why it's going to be hard getting this ideology out of schools.

Schools are going to be turning to these people as the 'experts' to advise on social transition when they are unsure:

Oh dear. They’ve now published an article….. Re-examining the Cass Review: A critical commentary on gender diversity research.

Thanks for sharing this.

They are still advocating for social transition in schools 'if children seek it'.

They don't deal with the consequences of living in stealth, inability to compell speech, conflict of rights around belief, necessity of single sex spaces, and consequences of social transition alongside inability to access puberty blockers.

It all sounds so 'inclusive' and 'supportive' but it's a pathway to years of confusion and distress.

They are sharing this with EPs to try to make this accepted educational psychologist practice and they want the BPS to make this their guidance.

They are dangerous idiots with influence.

Two grown men advocating for males to be admitted to girls' changing rooms? Not a good optic is it.

Two grown men who have ready access to children and who are described as experts advocating for males to be admitted to girls’ changing rooms = grooming in plain sight

Oh it was- it really was

Experts???
If I roll my eyes much more this week, I'll do myself a mischief

You roll your eyes so much, you end up looking at your retinas.

The trouble is, they're not merely idiots. If they were, they'd trip over the first hurdle. They're bright, motivated people seeking to shape the environment children grow up in, the policies of learned societies and professional bodies and the broader cultural milieu. Talk about it all calmly, so it looks fair and right and reasonable and part of the library of informed opinions that clever, caring people should have, and gradually you'll have your way. We talk about Dentons on here a lot, but you can see the same sort of thing in the strategy of the Fabian Society well over a century ago. And I say that as a self-identified lefty. Indeed, sometimes the Fabians adopted an image of the wolf in sheep's clothing as their trademark.

I struggle to reconcile how psychologists, trained to attend to complexity and to apply a bio psychosocial model, find themselves in a position where they are so blinkered.

The best sense I can make of it is that of them viewing critical theory as objective truth and adopting it as a lens through which all practice, research and evidence is viewed.

Recently, there has been a rising number of psychologists claiming/ believing that psychology should aim to be political and have a social justice purpose. There are popular networks that have formed around this positioning. Those who question or raise concern about this tend to be dismissed as naive or bigoted.

I find it sadly ironic that it is psychologists adopting limited and restricted hypotheses about what is going on.

This makes me so angry. My DH was an educational psychologist, ending his career as Principal EP in charge of a county service. I know how hard he worked, how principled he was about ensuring the best possible outcome for all the children and young people he dealt with within the budgetary constraints he was allowed and this craven compliance with a suspect ideology would totally enrage him.

What do you think he would have done if he was making his way in the profession in 2026?

To be honest I don't know. It was a different world back then (1972) when he started work as a newly qualified Ed Psych. He was the first the county had ever had and had to build the service from the ground up in a very large, sparsely-populated rural county. He took voluntary redundancy and early retirement in 1998, long before gender identity ideology took hold. All that mattered to him was helping children overcome their educational difficulties as much as they could.

Well, he'd either have been inculcated right from the start (as we know, gender ideology starts in high school), or peer pressure/horizontal and vertical transmission of propaganda would have snared hm, or he indeed would have been forced out/would have struggled to work happily.
With the conversion ban coming into law, there'd be no safe space for the skeptical/watching and waiting approach.
Absolutely wild watching the West retreat from modernity.

Oh, and they're both blokes by the way.
In case it's not obvious...

As soon as he appears as his real self without the filters in his promo pic, it's obvious. And they think they pass!
