And, the next article in Attitude after the Polanski one was - India Willoughby. Hardly a credible publication.

Zack the tit whisperer actually makes my skin crawl.

Yes, he reminds me strongly of the kind of guy I’d encounter in my youth down the pub who would stand just that bit too close when engaging me in conversation while staring at my tits.

I agree with all the previous posters in that he’s engaging in perpetual student politics. Does he realise that with 4 MPs and a couple of members of the HoL, he could get any one of them to propose legislation through a private members bill. They don’t get through very often but are a good way of gauging reaction and public opinion. If he’s really sincere about this, then he could actually do something about it.

I’m sure that outside the core membership, the majority of the green vote is from people who are genuinely wanting to vote for a political party of the environment and either don’t know or don’t care that the greens are actually a party of the Omnicause.

SionnachRuadh · 19/02/2026 14:51

It's my view that Zack will be a long term problem because traditionally the GP has won votes based on the party brand and hard working councillors, and a personality cult around the leader is something very new.

I think he's going to be a problem for non-Omnicause Greens voters. I can think of loads who are ex-Tory voters, who aren't particularly left wing but care a lot about clean rivers and bird sanctuaries and associate the Green brand with those things. The Ellie Chowns electorate. Maybe the calculus is that potentially losing those voters (and they might stay loyal) would be worth it if the prize is a big breakthrough in urban Labour seats.

He does have a gift for vibes based politics, and that seems to be the coming trend in the Greens. I was watching Bastani's report from the by-election, and he was actually talking to Hannah Spencer like you would talk to a small child, because he wanted to get onto policy and she had nothing to say beyond "I'm local me" and "Matt Goodwin is a massive racist" and "migrants are brilliant". But she'll do pretty well and might even win, because she can do vibes.

stickydough · 19/02/2026 14:54

‘If they come for one of us they come for all of us’…unless you’re a women - then you’re on your own. Why can’t he see it?

Pingponghavoc · 19/02/2026 18:32

Thats the councillors we get here. They turn up on bikes and talk about the proposed bypass.

The greens did relatively well in the last national election, and i note that we're one of their target seats. But i cant see how they can run a national campaign around Zack and not confused the hell out of the twitchers. Although, if limited to pink news and the last leg, voters here might be none the wiser.

Hannah is a good candidate in that she doesnt look like the typical omnicause supporter, and i can see someone like her doing well here. I assume voters are judging her as a potential mp, not chancellor.

SionnachRuadh · 19/02/2026 18:49

Hannah seems likeable, and it helps that she's got a working class Manchester accent that doesn't sound put on. She might live in Hale but she doesn't sound like someone from Hale.

There are a few deprived areas where Green councillors have built up support under their own steam, but not many of them, and I think there are some urban constituencies where the stereotypical yummy mummy Green candidate might struggle.

CousinBette · 18/02/2026 19:37

He didn’t identify as a Dave Paulden, it was just too dull and northern for a cool metrosexual vegan chap such as himself. He identified as a Zack 🤣

Disagree with his views and policies, however his surname is restoring one that was that of ancestors. They changed surname because of anti-semitism in the early 20th century.

Agreed. I cannot bear the man, but reinstating his Jewish surname is not a thing to criticise him for, imo.

"A motion tabled for the Green Party’s spring conference next month declares Zionism is a “racist ideology”.
In a radio interview, Mr Polanski, repeatedly dodged the question of whether he considered his mother, who is a strong supporter of Israel, would be considered a Zionist and therefore, according to the motion, a racist."

Depends what reason he had for restoring it.

Polanski refuses to define his Zionist mother as a racist

What do you mean by that? Please explain it, because I don't understand.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 19/02/2026 21:27

He's a conman, restoring his family name could be just a ploy that served him well in some way at the time.

SionnachRuadh · 19/02/2026 21:39

Paulden would be read in Manchester as a Jewish surname. Polanski stands out a bit more. It's got a certain zing! to it. I think he changed it at 18, so I read that more as a theatre kid thing than anything political.

How people relate to their names can be very personal. Lionel Shriver has spoken about how uncomfortable she felt with being female in her teens, and that's why she's Lionel and not Margaret.

I could use the Gaelic form of my surname, but I'd feel very pretentious doing that. Yet I know people for whom that's an important part of who they are.

I just think, of all the things we could criticise Polanski for, it's one of the most trivial.

LightningMode · 19/02/2026 21:45

Women change their surnames all the time (when they get married), no-one has a go at them!

And it's hard to understand the Jewish journey throughout the twentieth century for those of us who are not Jewish. Many families changed their surnames to try to assimilate. I do not judge their subsequent family members for wanting to change their name back, once they felt safer, and wanted to acknowledge their heritage.

Even though he seems to be in charge of a party that is taking that safety away.

Yeah, but Zack? Short for Zechariah? Couldn't he have stuck with boring old David?

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 19/02/2026 23:15

Quite.

He strikes me as someone in very much in love with his own self image.

thirdfiddle · 20/02/2026 08:30

Fair play to him, sounds like he had a stepfather called David and wanted to not be called the same. Which isn't to say it wasn't about image.

This.

I'm not anti-Semitic. Look I've got a Jewish name. All whilst supporting and courting those shouting rather horrible Gaza slogans.

He's a conman.

Zack the tit whisperer actually makes my skin crawl.

I thought it impossible for there to be someone more loathsome and horrible in British politics than Farage. Somehow Hypnotits achieves this. That's some feat. And Farage still makes my skin crawl.

" “Trans rights are human rights,” said the politician, who is gay. “And when they come for one of us, they come for all of us.” "

What a deeply unserious politician. Speaking in cliches is so 2021, Zack. Even the rest of the activists have moved on. And being gay is sod all to do with it. I'm a lesbian but it doesn't mean I've taken up the new religion of gendered souls.

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 23/02/2026 17:32

" “Trans rights are human rights,” said the politician, who is gay. “And when they come for one of us, they come for all of us.” "

"Utter piffle", said another person who is gay. "Put down all the drama and learned mantras, and actually try independent thinking for a moment or two."

SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 18/02/2026 11:44

Polanski is a twat. but he is right that the government could have just changed the equality act through primary legislation, it would have taken ages and probably failed, but, they could have done it.

That would involve being honest in favouring TW over women and the public won’t wear it. But Labour activists won’t like it if they just follow the SC to protect women’s SSS by keeping TW out, so Starmer and Philipson will continue to flannel and delay imo.

TWETMIRF · 24/02/2026 13:43

I am sure that as a gay man he's well up for munching on some man minge, right?

Oh sorry, I forgot that it's homophobic to expect gay men to want to sleep with transmen but not homophobic to expect lesbians to want to sleep with transwomen.

Dragonasaurus · 24/02/2026 14:26

Does anyone know if Zack would be happy to include transmen in his dating pool? Share the Hampstead men’s pool with women?

just sayin…
