This is exactly right. It's horrifying. I also "left" the Left when I saw their gloating and superiority over others they perceived to be "beneath them". It started in academic circles for me, back in 2001/2002 where I saw the level of disdain to those they considered "thick" and continued on and came to a head during the Brexit vote. I was still reading the Guardian at that point and never mind the contemptuous articles written by the "betters" about those who voted for Brexit, the below the line comments were absolutely awful. Everyone who had voted for Brexit was an extremely thick, evil, bigoted "gammon". No nuance, no understanding.
Then the basic rights of women came under attack. The cover up and denial of reality the Guardian newspaper did about the various sexual attacks in Cologne in 2015 was really upsetting, then of course the thread of anti Semitism running through various articles as well, particularly in the odious Owen Jones' articles.
I was uncomfortable then and it grew as it became clear that the new way to demonstrate their superior credentials became the trans stuff and the vitriol against the women (and some men) who disagreed. Awful.
The fact that these people have left a man brain-dead are celebrating this and others lauding them because he had "the wrong views" to me is exactly the same as the facsists in the 1930s. See also the breaking of a women's back with a sledgehammer. On another thread there was a horrible article minimising it by a Scottish journalist called Craig Murray. Odious man, but of course it's because Palestine activism good, anyone who gets in the way of that, bad. It's simple to him, and fuck the poor policewoman with a broken spine. These men (and it nearly always is men although the women who cheer it on from the Left also disgust me) are no better than the fascists in 1930s Germany. Say hello to the new boss. Same as the old boss....
