Well TRA's are well know for being deaf to anything but they're own bigoted worldview. A slight aside but Assistant Professor is a very junior academic rank (equivalent to lecturer in the UK). I don’t know the nuances of US Medical academia - it could be that Ting has only just started down the academic route despite practising as a surgeon for a long time, or they spend so long on their private practice the academic bit doesn’t get much attention or it could be an acknowledgment that TRA research is a bit dire.
