Just a quick message to remind posters that derailing does break our talk guidelines and it is always better to start a new thread to discuss the topic of interest rather than derailing a pre-existing one.

We appreciate that the fluidity and dynamic nature of threads can mean that conversations can sometimes segue into other topics, however the OP has now re-echoed the scope of the thread discussion so we ask that posters keep this in mind when posting.

Although in truth it wasn't a derail as such but the usual what about the men on a thread about a very specific female only issue - FGM.

It would be really good to link this to OPs of future threads so they can decide when to draw the line between "let them speak" and 'too much merail".

In the past MN have been really good at deleting when the thread has OP talking about personal, traumatic stuff.

Well that maybe the impact of the derailer, and based on threads in the past about FGM they are never very long as they are more in response to a recent report or news story.

And in all honesty I would expect women who have been subjected to this to post onf FWR, although it would be good to think it was a shared space for women to talk to other women / feminists.
