I can't do a sharetoken (I'm hundreds of miles from my device that I need for it) but I hope someone else can provide one or an archive link for her comment in the Times today. It's worth reading.

Light a candle in defiance of women-haters

On Candlemas Day, we should celebrate womanhood and face down contempt, whether from trans ideology or Taliban

It’s a very good article. It points out that in Afghanistan women cannot get an eduction. But male doctors cannot treat women. It seems to me that they are trying to kill women off completely. But there is a flaw in their argument …

Powerful and disturbing.

If women were financially valuable - like oil - the west would've plowed through and got rid of the Taliban by now.
We know the only valuable thing about us is procreation. So how horrifically stupid are the Taliban decision makers at refusing females education and stopping the treatment of females by males. It's like the Indian and Chinese practise of killing baby girls because they want boys. There won't be enough females left to carry them on. But who loses out the most before they realise it, you guessed it.

And if we were as important as state secrets the men in the Epstein files would be locked away, whether or not a knight of the realm or former prince.

As PP says, powerful and disturbing- and would it even have been published even 2 years ago?

womendeserveequalhumanrights · 02/02/2026 09:11

Excellent article. Afghanistan is a cautionary tale as the misogyny underpinning the Taliban also exists here and in some powerful places (the police force being one, the NHS -in places - is another). We have to keep fighting for our sex-based rights, or we will lose them.

This article is so depressing.

In Ireland yesterday Feb 1st was St Brigid’s day, the biggest Saint in early Christian Ireland after St Patrick.

Definitely one of Ireland’s first ever feminists and a huge deal here only behind St Patrick, now that we have recently given her a bank holiday of her own she will be fully cherished at everyone’s leisure.

I think she is the person we should focus on today. She is half myth, half abbess, half organiser for women, fully a legend.

Honestly I think she should be the patron saint of Mumsnet.

It's such a powerful and depressing article.
