The company have said they will "no longer participate in a failed system" meaning the now enforceable age checks. I think that says it all. This is the company that women had to fight to remove videos of their abuse and clearly they were ok with children accessing it previously. Use is 77% lower since the new age checks. I couldn't be more happy

Won't people just use a VPN to appear as if they're viewing it from another country?

There was briefly noise about banning VPNs but VPNs weren’t invented for personal use but rather business use. I guess there was an outcry from business about commercially sensitive information suddenly being vulnerable if they got rid of them.

I'm pretty IT illiterate but I know what a VPN is and my anti-virus has one as standard which kicks in on public networks like trains and hotels.

Are most people really unaware of them? I'm really sceptical of any figures associated with the success of this policy- maybe PornHub have realised no-one is interested in verifying their age when they can use a VPN.

Not if VPNs are illegal (like drugs)

If VPNs were illegal there would be a outcry from businesses who need confidentiality and security.

You'd have government approved VPNs. The same way they want government approved encryption.

Who would trust that?
