DD’s school is still promoting Mermaids in their support organisations info to parents.

I am severely pressed for time, but I can’t let this slide.

Any kind MN-er able to give me some bullerpoints for a brief email to the Head explaining why this is a bad idea? I know there was the charity commusssion investigation a couple of years ago and I know they’re batshit, but haven’t got time to research and formulate a succinct email and Chat GPT is suggesting replies that are a bit TWAW 😉

Much appreciated!

Should add: you need to scroll right down to the bottom of that page to get to the templates.

I would be tempted to send something short and sweet along the lines of you are aware Mermaids has been involved with safeguarding concerns (e.g supplying breast binders to children without parental consent - source Transgender charity Mermaids under investigation - BBC News) can they confirm that if they are promoting this charity they have done due diligence to make sure there are no ongoing safeguarding concerns and that any Mermaids staff who interact with families are vetted appropriately.

This is to safeguard families in the school as the assumption would be that due diligence will have been done on any charities promoted.

If it's actually about the teaching of gender ideology in the school, go with the Transgender Trend materials for sure.

Also this from 2021. The latest statutory safeguarding guidelines, KCSIE, quotes Cass. Children are now gender questioning, not trans, as mermaids uses, because as Cass says, “social transition is not a neural act” so mermaids is not in line with statutory safeguarding rules.
