But, BBC, what does this mean?

'People' are being harassed? 'Teenagers'?

If you weren't the BBC, you might say clearly that young women are being sexually harassed. And it might mean something. Instead, you give us this waffleburger of vapid obfuscation with a side order of prissy union pedantry.

McDonald's sexual abuse: Government offers to intervene in row with unions

It follows a BBC investigation three years ago which exposed a toxic culture at the fast-food chain.

Almost as if they're trying to hid the reality of sexual VAWG. Enraging 😡

The BBC stick to the rules. The rules of misogyny:

  1. Women are responsible for what men do.
  2. Women saying no to men is a hate crime.
  3. Women speaking for themselves are exclusionary and selfish.
  4. Women’s opinions are violence against men, thus male violence against women is justified.
  5. Women and Feminism must be useful to men or they are worthless.
  6. Women who go around being female AT men by menstruating and breastfeeding babies deserve punishment.
  7. Women should always be grateful to men for everything.
  8. Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are.
  9. Men always know the “real reasons” for everything women do and say.
10. The worst thing about male violence is that it makes men look bad. 11. Whatever women suffer from, it is worse when it happens to men. 12. Women’s ability to recognize male behavior patterns is misandry. 13. Angry women are crazy. Angry men have trouble expressing themselves. 14. Women have all the rights they need: The right to remain silent. 15. Men are the default human. Women are strange subhuman others. 16. Everyone owns and controls women’s bodies except the women themselves.

I remember the time when I used to value the BBC for its news coverage. Ahhh the blissful ignorance of youth middle age. I feel another official complaint coming on.

How very ambiguous. Surely it would make their story stronger to point out that it is not just children (17 year olds) being abused but what sex category the majority of those are?

Because there is more to the story if it is not spread equally across the sexes.

Depends what their priorities are. Do they care that girls and women are being harassed/abused, or do they just want to display their righteousness in talking about 'gender' without mention of sex.

'Gender based harassment' is just meaningless.

From 2023.

'A toxic culture of sexual assault, harassment, racism and bullying has been alleged by more than 100 current and recent UK staff at outlets of the fast-food chain McDonald's.
The BBC was told that workers, some as young as 17, are being groped and harassed almost routinely.'
'Over a five-month period, we reached out to McDonald's workers to ask about their experiences of working there. Of the more than 100 allegations from employees we spoke to, 31 related to sexual assault, and 78 related to sexual harassment.'

The investigation covers other issues, including racism, etc, but it's pretty clear from the examples given that the bulk of the sexual harassment, assaults, and abuses were committed by males, with female victims.
