THERES GOIN TAE BE A MURDER

Rightsraptor · 03/01/2026 18:21

She's mates with Val McDermid & I'd guess Val has been encouraging Nic in her literary endeavours.

Thelnebriati · 03/01/2026 18:25

They've always been jealous we have a billionaire author on our team. Grin

THERES GOIN TAE BE A MURDER

I fear the biggest crime might be that committed against literature.
Will you be writing it all in capitals?

ITS NO A COOK BOOK

Oh I do so wish the laugh reaction was still available.

Ms Sturgeon will never stop grifting sadly...

SionnachRuadh · 03/01/2026 19:57

You know, over in Murica they had crime thriller novels with Obama and Biden as the James Bond style heroes. It's the sort of thing even Putin would find a bit cringe.

But if the Muricans can have a cult of personality around their leaders, why not the Scots?

What Nicola Did Next

This reminds me that I need to pick up a copy of Douglas Hurd's 1971 spy novel Scotch on the Rocks, which foresees a Britain thrown into turmoil by the SNP gaining serious political power.

The BBC made a mini-series based on it in 1973, but it has never been repeated due it its outrageous suggestions that some people in the SNP might be a bit dodgy.

I never thought of Douglas Hurd as being blessed with 20/20 foresight.

They're all sages compared to the present bunch! Nicola got herself a gig as a book reviewer for the NS, so I suppose she can hope for a friendly response there.

SidewaysOtter · 03/01/2026 22:19

She’s realised she’s a busted flush and is trying to be the new JKR?

Except, you wee windbag, we’re quite happy with the actual JKR, and you can fuck right off, you colossal traitorous disappointment.

Hopefully it’ll sell better than her last one.

WellOrganisedWoman · 03/01/2026 23:49

I am unconvinced of her ability to maintain continuity. Or a grip on reality.

“She said she now wanted to play a part in bringing “civility, nuance and understanding” back to politics.”

But if you are one of my political enemies — or frenemies — and think you got off lightly in Frankly, then this is going to be a completely different kettle of fish. There will be a murder on every page.”

Civility, nuance and settling old scores via a fictional proxy don’t seem to go together.

Do you reckon the protagonist will be a short gallus woman, brought up on a council estate whose family prized education and was the first in her family to go to university?

Did anyone actually care what happened in her other book?

WellOrganisedWoman · 04/01/2026 00:10

Perhaps Nicola imagines anyone she ever had words with secretively purchasing Frankly and quaking in fear as they read it searching for their evisceration.

Is all a bit legend in her own lunch hour.

The worst thing is, no matter how bad it is, it'll get published and marketed even though they KNOW no ones going to buy the damn thing.
