No Women's Right Campaigners in New Year's Honours List

I downloaded the spreadsheet version of the New Year's Honours list and cant find any honours for campaigners for women's rights. Sad

But according to AI these are women who have been honoured for their contribution to their area of work.

The New Year Honours List 2026, released on December 29, 2025, recognizes several leaders and supporters of women's charities and advocacy organizations.

Key Women's Charity Figures & Leaders

  • Carla Cressy (OBE): Founder and CEO of The Endometriosis Foundation. She was honored for her services to charity and to women's health.
  • Tracy Foster (OBE) & Angela Salt (OBE): Respectively the Chief Guide (most senior volunteer) and former Chief Executive of Girlguiding. They were recognized for their decades of service in supporting girls and young women.
  • Dr. Carol Ann Homden (DBE): Chief Executive of the Thomas Coram Foundation for Children (Coram), honored for her services to children and families.
  • Meera Syal (DBE): The actor and writer was awarded a Damehood for services to literature, drama, and charity, including her extensive advocacy work.
  • Sarah Lilian Anderson (DBE): Founder and Trustee of The Listening Place, recognized for services to mental health and suicide prevention.
Sports & Advocacy Recognitions

The 2026 list also prominently features women’s sports figures who have championed female representation and inclusion:

  • Sarina Wiegman (Honorary Dame): Head Coach of the England Women’s Football team (Lionesses), honored for her historic success in the game.
  • Leah Williamson (CBE): Captain of the Lionesses, along with teammates Alex Greenwood, Keira Walsh, Georgia Stanway, and Ella Toone (MBEs).
  • Simone Pound (MBE): Director of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion at the PFA, recognized for her work in striving for a game free from discrimination.
  • Marlie Packer (OBE) & Zoe Aldcroft (OBE): Key players in England's victorious Women’s Rugby World Cup squad, recognized alongside teammates Megan Jones, Sadia Kabeya, and Ellie Kildunne (MBEs).

I am not begrudging these women being honoured, but most years some women from smaller support groups for women are recognised.

@IwantToRetire what rights are Women missing?

What rights do women have if the word ‘woman’ is made meaningless by the inclusion of men?

@IwantToRetire what rights are Women missing?

All of them now.

Women have rights on paper. The government are doing their damnedest to collude with activists to ensure they do not however have them in practice. In essence by trying to maintain that the word 'woman' is a mixed sex term which benefits men at the expense of women. (While denying it. And wittering on about being proud of suffragettes etc.)

If a woman is just another word for person, then no, women have no rights. You cannot legally protect a group that is undefined, and it was men's superior rights, grasp, power, influence, and habit of taking absolutely bloody everything in the belief of being the priority, that they needed protecting from.

Mind you, the govt trying to do this have also announced they're going to stop VAWG by scolding boys at school, and somehow they think they and the schools are going to know who the boys are, and that sex in this case is suddenly identifiable, relevant and to be focused on. The Lala land bus stops here.

Did she? Didn't realise.

Yeah. Ennobled 22 August 2024. I think that Rishi Sunak gave her a peerage in his resignation honours list.

@IwantToRetire what rights are Women missing?

The right to occupy a specific categorisation of human being with its own particular characeristics, needs and requirements.

@Shortshriftandlethal I agree with that. All this DEI and trans propaganda isn't for me.

Starmer et al have been working for years on stuffing the HoL with cronies to further their agenda and fuck up actual democracy:

Tbf, the HoL has had a large Tory majority since forever (and still does). Maybe Tories have had more time in power to devote to 'stuffing'?

Nice to see Meera Syal get a damehood. Always annoys me a bit that sportspeople get OBEs/MBEs etc five minutes after playing a match whereas anyone else has to hew at something for years to get anything at all. The whole system is messed up.
And yet I never see anyone discussing what would happen to the "honours" system if we abolished the monarchy as many would like to.

Honours can be granted by the President in a presidential republic and by Parliament in a parliamentary republic.

Grammarnut · 31/12/2025 20:34

Starmer and co wouldn't have let a GC woman fighting for women's rights get nominated. What HMK thinks, who knows?

moto748e · 31/12/2025 21:03

Because they are chickenshit. They dare not stand up say what they know is right.

ETA: grammar

I used to sit on a couple of honours committees and can assure you that decisions can be taken in the most arbitrary way. They tot up at the end, and if there are not enough women/minority ethnic successes, then white men get bounced and people are picked at random from the no list.

IwantToRetire · 31/12/2025 21:17

Just to add that Meera Syal has long been active with women's groups. And that was part of her nomination.

This is an example of where multiple segregated shortlists should be used. If you are going to use some kind of quota to ensure that women and BAME people aren't overlooked, you rank the BAME women on their own list, the white women on their own list, etc etc, so that the best from each list get the honours.

Which makes your original question totally bizarre and just assumed you had maybe wondered into the wrong forum.

This is the Feminism and Women's Rights Forum.

So clearly posting about Women's Rights is obvious.

Yep. Although my experience was of pointing out we had not yet considered [Person X] on the shortlist of nominees and being told “we’ve already got a woman” as if the only reason anyone female was on the list was for tokenism.
