The Minister for Women and Equalities has appointed Ali Harris and Professor Shazia Choudhry as interim commissioners at the EHRC.

Ali Harris is Chief Executive of Equally Ours, a human rights charity. Shazia Choudhry is Professor of Law at the University of Oxford, and the Jeffrey Hackney Tutorial Fellow in Law at Wadham College. Their appointments ensure the EHRC can continue upholding and promoting equality and human rights while recruitment takes place for fixed commissioners.

Fucking great. Bloody trans allies. We are in for a long battle.

Ffs

Labour being Labour, it was pointed out many times that if they got in this would happen, so it shouldn't be a suprise to anyone.

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 23/12/2025 08:51

If we stuff it really hard with biased people with heavy political anti-woman agendas, can we make the law say something different without changing it first?

I'm at the point now of just pouring another drink with my eyes on my watch, going 'how long until we can get rid of these raving lunatics'?

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 23/12/2025 08:52

Mind you, Kemi won't need to work much on the manifesto, it will just be 'slam all the nutjobbery into reverse asap'. Most of the country would gladly vote for that.

They are very very determined not to get re-elected.

I've been told that they are both actually GC

Please say more? I need some cause for optimism...

Equally Ours has a line in a response to EHRC strategic plan which was post Labour election but pre FWS about groups campaigning on definition of sex and impact on trans people (sec 8.2)

Kemi nominated Shazia to the UN position Cedaw…
my quick googling efforts!

teawamutu · 23/12/2025 10:25

I just looked that that. I suppose the one thing is that they may have genuinely believed the Equality Act definition of sex meant both birth sex and acquired sex, since they refer to groups trying to 'amend' the Act.

What I can't see is anything they said on FWS itself.

They are very very determined not to get re-elected.

The evidence suggests that they're now trying to avoid this by strapping themselves into Downing Street and desperately trying to prevent elections.

I can’t reveal my sources.

IwantToRetire · 23/12/2025 15:26

When I posted last night I did a quick search and thought they were probably closer to MAS approach. ie there is the law as written, and confirmed by supreme court, you have to listen to both sides (ie free speech not silencing)

So probably more WPUK than FWS!

Let alone FWR Grin

What is MAS approach? I know the other acronyms, but not that one!

Sorry, it first started to be used when there was the horror show of the WEC interviewing the Government's proposed replacement for Baroness Falkner ie Mary Ann Stephenson. And there were long threads about it.

Also easier for me as I always get the spelling of her name wrong.
