Police to stop recording non-crime hate incidents with new 'common sense' approach | LBC https://share.google/Rkq0L2XzNkgCCBvhd

Police leaders have reportedly agreed NCHIs are no longer “fit for purpose” and are set to present the plans to the Home Secretary next month.

Under the plans, a new “common sense” system is set to replace NCHIs.

It means only a minority of such incidents will be recorded and only as anti-social behaviour, the most serious category.

On the other hand what does anti social mean? Will it get rid of the perception of the complainant?

And will this cover Scotland, too?

I'm sceptical myself - modern policing just loves building databases and collecting data too much🤔

'An interim report submitted to Sarah Jones, the policing minister, urged that the practice be dropped and the final review has been delivered to Mahmood. The move would require all police call handlers and officers in England and Wales to be retrained in how such incidents are recorded.

Lord Herbert, the chairman of the College of Policing, told The Telegraph: “NCHIs will go as a concept. That system will be scrapped and replaced with a completely different system.
“There will be no recording of anything like it on crime databases. Instead, only the most serious category of what will be treated as anti-social behaviour will be recorded. It’s a sea change.”'

Non-crime hate incidents to be scrapped by all police next month

The decision comes after senior police leaders warned the system was outdated and unsuited to the age of social media

Well the multiple litigant Lynsay Watson is frothing about it on BlueSky, so it must be good news!

Yes this was stated after the end of the Glinner trial. See https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwyp1gk0n23o

I believe that the key concern then was they said they would stop investigating them, not stop recording them.

This news is to stop recording them altogether. Which they could just do anyway as it isn't the law, just a decision made by the College of Policing. They don't need to reform anything. Just stop doing it.

Although I am as sceptical as always in that it could be 'common sense' not to misgender people etc etc etc...

I'd be interested in who they award the 'Common Sense Training Programme' to.

Also, has it been spelled out what will happen to the current records? Multiple people who cared passionately enough about child welfare and women’s rights to speak out… and could potentially be barred from working with children as a result?

I wouldn’t trust Herbert Herbert as far as I could throw him.

I hope the Information Commissioner gets involved in this farce.

I’m glad someone is kicking off change but the detail on this kind of thing is key.

This is a hopeful sign.

And presumably the existing records will be deleted...?
