The New York Times article (share token below) reports on a year-long investigation of unexplained deaths, rape and imprisonment of Kenyan women working in Saudi Arabia.

"Saudi Arabia is the top destination, and Kenya’s government has made it easier, cheaper and faster for Kenyans to find work there — with dire consequences."

This is dreadful. And this is why whenever the subject of slavery comes up (i work in a school) i mention that there are now more enslaved people than ever. It always comes as a surprise. The trans-atlantic trade was barbaric and evil, but i think it's more important to fight to end the suffering that is happening now.

Thank you @Lookwhosintown for sharing the NYT article and @TheColourOutOfSpace for sharing your personal knowledge.
I was a little aware of labour abuses in SA and UAE but not the shocking attitude of Kenyan government to their citizens and the legal trap of unwed mothers.

I have become somewhat desensitized and fatigued by all the ongoing horrors in the world and the feeling of powerlessness to make any meaningful contribution to change. I will have another look at my pension to check where it is invested and the charity shared by @AsTreesWalking. I can share with friends/ family. Any other suggestions on how an individual in UK can assist these women?

Modern slavery and people trafficking is absolutely rife everywhere, including in the USA and UK. It isn't fashionable to talk about it though.
