New Conservative proposals for UK grooming gangs inquiry

IwantToRetire · 08/12/2025 20:31

"The Conservatives have said that the nationwide grooming gangs inquiry should be limited to two years and examine the ethnicity and religious background of offenders.

The establishment of a national inquiry has been dogged by rows about its scope and who should chair it, with a group of women quitting its victim liaison panel.

One of those survivors was with Tory leader Kemi Badenoch at her press conference on Monday.

A warning, this report contains disturbing details about sexual abuse."

It's a pity they didn't have such strong views and intentions during the 14 years they were in government

It's a pity that Labour weren't demanding they act. All those Labour councils looking the other way. Labour were supposed to be the opposition.

Barbaramcnairyouregonnalovemybaby · 08/12/2025 23:51

Hypocrisy all round ,no one wanted to advocate for those girls because of their backgrounds or the racism accusations.

Bigwelshlamb · 09/12/2025 00:43

Just publicity blah, as if they care about the victims ... They had 14 years to do this.

IwantToRetire · 09/12/2025 01:04

Did any of you watch either video.

Some of the women who have given up on the Government project are supporting her.

If they think it worthwhile I dont think our personal negativity towards either party should take precedence over helping them.

Also the interivew, KB's answers to why now not before shows you how if anything Government's are the last ones who will ever get anything done.

What is the purpose of determining the grooming gangs ethnicity/ religion - what will they actually do with that information?

They were government for 14 years, how is it the opposition’s fault.
Hmm of course, the Tories never put a foot wrong!🙄

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/12/2025 02:34

No government has acted correctly by these women and girls. Posters forget that when much of the historical abuse was going on Labour were in power.

Justchilling07 · 09/12/2025 02:41

@Ereshkigalangcleg if you say so, let’s just blame Labour for everything! shall we, it just make’s it easier to blame rather than take some accountability🙄

'In 2002, when she was Labour MP for Keighley, Anne Cryer became the first public figure in Britain to talk out about allegations of "young Asian lads" grooming underage white girls in the West Yorkshire town. As a result, she was shunned by elements of her party'
It was under Labour councils it happened.
Being tribal on this issue is daft, no party took a lead.

Exactly, the Labour party were silencing any of their MP's who pointed out obvious truths about the ethnicity of the abusers. The vast majority of the grooming gangs, happened in Labour controlled councils and the Labour party showed a deliberate failure in acknowledging this fact.

The two things aren't mutually exclusive, but being in power for 16 years and then pointing the finger 18 months after you lose the election isn't exactly helping the girls you could have helped years ago is it.

JoyintheMorning · 09/12/2025 09:24

If Social Services deny it is happening and the police never prosecuted and Labour MPs shut the story down, and there is nothing from the local press how can Westminster Government Act? They have no grounds to intervene.

Nah, they are still irredeemable. This scandal exploded under their watch, yet they were busy screaching about nothingburgers. And Kemy would advocate for burqas and locking the women at home, if she thought that it would buy her the votes of the right. Nothing coming from her is to be trusted.

It was both parties - Conservative, Labour, Conservative, from the late eighties onwards and it is still going on.

Glass houses and all that. If you have done bugger all during your time in office wouldn't it be a bit more appropriate not to throw stones and be supportive of any efforts being made now. They were both shit.

I think that was what l was trying to get at, both parties have made mistakes, it’s pointless blaming it on one.
I just hope, really really hope, reform don’t get in, in the future, just because people are fed up this and previous government, they want a change, reform are not our saviour!!!
Interesting that Kemi Badenoch, has said the conservatives wouldn’t rule out a coalition with reform in next general election!! That just says it all about the Conservatives!

Bringemout · 09/12/2025 15:26

I don’t think it matters anymore really who didn’t do what. What matters is whether a through investigation takes place. Everyone failed here.

I want an investigation into failures in local councils, elected representatives and the police.

TeenageSu1cideDontDoit · 09/12/2025 15:28

They had FOURTEEN fucking years to do something and did shite all. It's very easy to comment when you're not the ones in power.

WorriedMutha · 09/12/2025 15:36

I think if Anne Cryer had been a Tory MP she wouldn't have been condemned for raising the alarm by fellow Tories. It is Labour that has form for wilful blindness in the face of evidence of wrongdoing when it involves a sacred caste of 'marginalised people'.
When Margaret Hodge was the leader of Islington Council. There was a cover up of child abuse in children's homes. The perpetrators where gay men but it became impossible to raise the alarm without being accused of homophobia. After the outcry, it was said 'lessons would be learnt' and yet here we are again.
