The Greens avoiding challenge HIGNFY?

NotInMyyName · 05/12/2025 16:05

Zak Polanski was scheduled to be on the BBC prog tonight; on Have I Got News for You. But appears to be replaced by Finlay Christie the comedian.

I hadnt planned to watch as the Greens hyperbole turns my stomach but was going to risk it as there is, (or was) a real risk that he would be “teased” ! about his hypnosis business?

The podcast The Rest is Entertainment, discussed the inevitability that the topic would be raised. 🫢🫢🫢

Is it unkind of me to assume he can’t face some good natured teasing on TV. SADTIMES.

He was on question time last night maybe the poor lamb is tired.

CurlewKate · 05/12/2025 16:14

It was a clash with Question Time. He has posted an explanation-he will be on HIGNIFY in the new year.

Oh - I didnt know that. I shall await his future teasing by the panel.

Edit. I cant bear to watch anything he is on and missed QT. The platitudes and tropes he trots out, are too enraging.

He was hardly a massively vocal contributor to QT yesterday, so he might as well have provided me with some giggles tonight, the meanie.

Bagsintheboot · 05/12/2025 17:50

QT is broadcast live at the same time HIGNFY is filmed on a Thursday night - in fairness I don't think he could be in both studios at once!

Southwestten · 05/12/2025 17:52

I would be very surprised if they give him a hard time.

Herbturner · 05/12/2025 22:40

He's brilliant. Only tedious morons with cash to spare to lose can't stand him. Mumsnet and BBC bores.

He seems not to know what a woman is, which makes him a raging idiot in my book.

FenceBooksCycle · 05/12/2025 22:57

I think it sounds like he acquitted himself well.on QT. When he's not being an idiot about human biology he's not bad:

Cash to spare?????

nauticant · 05/12/2025 23:06

In the Green utopia it will be illegal for anyone to have spare cash. Saving will be the mark of an antisocial person. Everyone working in a subsistence economy will bring joy for all.

Sounds a bit familiar, that, doesn't it.

As I recall, it didn't work.

nauticant · 05/12/2025 23:12

Don't be such a Debbie Downer. The other times it wasn't tried in the right way. This time it will be tried in the right way and Utopia is effectively guaranteed.

murasaki · 05/12/2025 23:12

I remember when it was all fields round here, and the Green party had green policies. I even voted for them, and, shock horror, stood as a local Councillor (i didn't win, but did beat the Tory).

These days I'd rather ritually disembowel myself with a rusty spoon.

nauticant · 05/12/2025 23:13

Rather than a runcible spoon?

Oh definitely, the Greens took that for the utopia along with my honey and five pound note.

The problem is that, when someone will lie to you about something as basic as whether a woman can have a penis, it's impossible to trust them about everything else. So, he might well be telling the truth that half of all immigrants are students here to study, but I can't trust him.

nauticant · 06/12/2025 00:08

I've heard it described as flat Earth views. Once you've had someone trying to persuade you of that, it's just not possible to take seriously whatever else they might say.

Exactly. He's no different from every other politician - he's prepared to straight up lie to your face about reality if it suits him

Being a woman of a certain age, it's as if Rik from the young ones was leading a political party. Lots of vacuous sloganeering with no actual grasp of how he'd implement any of it eg how exactly will they get rid of private landlords? Lots of talk about expanding social house building programmes but that will need to be paid for and I've not seen any costings for it and it's also likely to mean utilising green belt land which seems to be I don't know a bit against what the Green Party is meant to be about

That’s a Facebook post written by whom? The sycophancy is strong there.

Zack is a brilliant and inspirational speaker of churchillian proportions when talking in hyperbole about the meta issues. You’d hope so from someone taught drama and worked as a hypnotist.

To me, there are more important questions about actions vs words. What knowledge does he possess? What did his education entail? What has he done with his life and what work has he done? Here’s a clip from Wikipedia:

Polanski worked with the theatre company DifferencENGINE as an immersive theatre actor, including appearances in The Hollow Hotel and The People's Revolt (in the Tower of London).[8][9] He taught at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts and the National Centre for Circus Arts. Polanski also sang for the London International Gospel Choir.[10][11][12] Polanski also worked as a hypnotherapist. In 2013, a journalist for The Sun requested a hypnotherapy session from him to increase her breast size and body image self-confidence for an article in the paper.

He advocates for the abolition of the House of Lords - which oddly has acted as a check on parliament - and is critical of the UK's relationship with the United States and NATO, and advocates the UK's eventual withdrawal from NATO. Thus, he’s advocating for alienating the UK’s second biggest trading partner when we’re struggling from Brexit and being a useful fool for Moscow at a time of its worst aggression towards Europe.

So, in summary, someone leading the Green Party has done some immersive acting, taught immersive (?) acting, sang and was a hypnotist before turning his chances to politics. He’s not alone. Johnson was also a political chancer, likewise Cameron and there are others. But I despair at the lack of informed and deep understanding of the issues that appears to be prevalent in too many of our populist leaders.

In my opinion, and until shown different, Polanski is just another politician of that ilk. A silver tongued fast talking gay man with no skin in the game on women’s rights so easy for him to preach the #bekind mantra of the gender ideology.

I get that people are struggling and deeply concerned about the environment but in my viewpoint, the GP is not the party that is serious about the difficult choices and tricky balancing act between protecting the environment and protecting jobs. If it were, it would’ve elected a different leader. Such a shame.
