Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

And we wonder why productivity in the UK has plummeted...

Seethlaw · 05/12/2025 08:28

I wish I could press a Reset button on the vocabulary used to refer to trans people. "Trans wo/men" is way too confusing, and leads far too easily to, "Well duh, trans women are women, it's in the name!"

I read a book which called trans women "trans-feminine men", and I liked that. It clearly spells out that they are men with a female gender identity. So trans men are trans-masculine women, and pregnant trans men are pregnant trans-masculine women, so that we end up with: "pregnant cis women and pregnant trans-masculine women" which can then very obviously be simplified to "pregnant women".

AreYouSureAskedNaomi · 05/12/2025 08:30

A midwife!

From the article:

Cllr Dickson, who in introducing the motion referred to her experiences as a midwife, replied: "I'm sorry, I couldn't agree with an amendment that changed the wording of that.
"I am looking after pregnant people, people identify as different genders so I am afraid I can't."

Such performative stupidity

god these absolute fuckwits still walk among us

Or even better, Transvestites, which is what they are.

Sure, but you lose the information of what sex the person is, which can be crucial.

BundleBoogie · 05/12/2025 08:42

I think trans activism (and maybe the internet) has broken some people’s brains.

Imagine a midwife pretending she thinks it is some random identity that enables pregnancy and not the female sex?

The odd thing is, I’m not sure if it went down the plug hole of a purity spiral but iirc it wasn’t uncommon for gender confused women and girls to call themselves ‘trans masc’.
There’s a distinct sexed imbalance in the distortions of language. Have the recent discussions about prostate cancer screening avoided the use of the word ‘man’? Nothing I heard or read did.

Everyone knows a transvestite is a man. And they are the only ones relevant for safe spaces etc.

"Trans masc" alone carries the same problem as "trans man" though: it gives the impression that the person is male, when they are in fact female.

I just checked a few sites about prostate cancer screening and they all talk about men, even when they mention that trans women and male non-binary people should also get tested. And just like you, I've never heard of any discussion on that topic either.

So, "transvestite" for trans women, and some other word entirely for trans men? Sure, that could work too.

WorriedMutha · 05/12/2025 09:04

Ridiculous but probably happening in Council chambers everywhere. This has been posted in a local newspaper and probably doesn't get much reach but if a national runs with it, they may not like the ridicule that will be heaped on them. They express concern that this is a gift to Reform but in a democracy they should be willing to defend their position. If they want to offer Reform an open goal, its their seats on the line.

Some women are transvestites. But I get the point.

Exactly – the discrepancy highlights the misogyny of the movement more than anything else. In the break during lunch on the cricket on Sky the other day, there was a big segment on how to raise awareness of prostate cancer among men. I completely agree but there is zero awareness that it’s the word women that’s always supposedly offensive and women-specific health conditions are meant to be ‘inclusive’. Men can just tick along as usual.

Have women ever been called transvestites? I haven't come across that.

WorriedMutha · 05/12/2025 09:36

Surely it was s discussion on prostate cancer among people. Has someone reported Sky News to the fox botherer.

DeanElderberry · 05/12/2025 09:39

The TRAs put a lot of effort into getting people to use that ' ', which has caused much of the confusion. Transmen and transwomen, no ' ', much less muddled.

I’m amazed Gillette hasn’t been cancelled “the best a man can get” but maybe grateful as all this shows how unbalanced it is

Did Yorkie bars ever have an ad with a woman driving the truck?

I jest , because back then we took adverts as part entertainment, part advert.
We weren’t seeing them as a commentary on society and an opportunity to be offended. No social media to tell everyone how offended we were either.

If we are going for a reset, then do away with all grouping to do with personal perceptions of oneself. It’s no different to having groups defined by star signs: true believers in how they perceive themselves as Pisces asking for all Pisceans to be grouped together for particular things.

She wouldn’t be looking after me. I’d be asking for a different midwife.

I noticed that too, about the prostate cancer thing. They referred to men throughout.
