So much for the BBC changing its policy towards reporting trans issues. This Girl Guides story is really significant - why no report yet?

Maybe they want to get some reactions from parents/girls and GG leaders to counterbalance that ridiculous ‘heavy heart’ line?

impossibletoday · 02/12/2025 19:15

It was mentioned briefly mentioned on the BBC 6 o'clock news.

Quercus5 · 02/12/2025 19:15

Ah, my post crossed. Maybe it took them all afternoon to agree the line they wanted to take

It was literally right there.

🙄

Clearly following the new BBC informal rules. 'biological boys who identify as girls' and giving equal space to Transactual and Sex Matters. Let's hope if they do a sad boy who identifies as a girl story they'll also give equal weight to girl/parent who is delighted GG will actually be single sex.

They also included this which hopefully makes it clear it’s not a ban on gender-questioning kids. Just getting back to being single sex regardless of ‘gender identity’.
Biological girls who identify as boys are still able to join.

Rumplestiltz · 02/12/2025 20:45

Was very high up on the 6pm radio news with sex matters quoted. So I would say a lot has changed.

borntobequiet · 02/12/2025 21:19

Though it was reported on R4 at six, it was confusing - which surprised me, as it was Lucy Manning reporting. It was never explicitly made clear that a “trans girl” is a boy. Unless you actually knew that - and lots of people think that a “trans girl” is a girl who identifies as a boy - the comments about and from Sex Matters would need some unpicking. I think the BBC is still dragging its feet.

BundleBoogie · 02/12/2025 21:27

I thought they didn’t let girls who identified as boys join previously? I may have misremembered.

RedToothBrush · 03/12/2025 00:19

It is not clear how many people the rule change will directly affect, as the organisation says it does not collect data on gender identity.

So they DO collect data on sex?

Or they just don't know and don't care, so won't be able to kick out the boys anyway.

Needspaceforlego · 03/12/2025 00:25

But even if they don't want to throw the boys out its still a step away from the TWAW line. And also means they need to issue proper safeguarding guidelines for the girls who may find themselves at camps with boys.

I understood it perfectly. I what very clear

Why would an organisation that’s supposed to be single sex ever have needed to collect data on sex?! The membership should be 100% female, the women-only posts should be 100% female. The only group for which it should ever have been relevant is the other adult positions which are open to men.
Thats the horrible irony of the situation - the whole raison d’être of this organisation is because sex and sexism matters and ‘gender’ tends to particularly oppress girls.

KilliMonjaro · 03/12/2025 08:05

I heard it on radio 4 last night.

To make sure all of its members are actually the sex they are supposed to be...

It was reported on the BBC morning news service, i listened to it.

I think you re looking for a fight

A better point to argue over is why on earth does this policy only applies to new members, not existing... insanity.

Mochudubh · 03/12/2025 08:24

I was disappointed the item on the six o clock news was so brief. I'd hoped it might have made a good number of people who think this isn't an issue (generally, not just GG) prick up their ears and think "Hang on a mo....".

But, baby steps.

borntobequiet · 03/12/2025 08:32

They’re still trying to play it down IMO.

Edited

I couldn’t find it on the bbc app earlier in the day - when I looked just after 7pm yesterday it appeared to have only been published a few minutes before. I assume the op had also been looking online.

GoodQueenWenceslaus · 03/12/2025 08:46

This was reported by the BBC all day yesterday. Why start the thread without checking?

RoyalCorgi · 03/12/2025 08:53

The use of "trans girls" was extremely confusing for people who haven't followed this debate. They mean "boys".

SouthernFashionista · 03/12/2025 08:54

I would dearly love for the headline to simply read: boys no longer allowed to join girl guides and brownies.
