This is regarding the indie/self-published book written by Milo (formerly Audra) Winter (are both versions pen-names?).
Winter posted a lot of TikTok videos, including one where she self-identified as a 'master' of the craft of writing due to having spent over 10,000 hours writing. A lot of interest in the book resulted in approximately 6000 - 8000 copies being pre-ordered, which I understand is a huge amount for a self-published book. book.
Unfortunately, once the copies began to arrive with the customers, it became clear that the book was bad, and people were unhappy.
The interesting thing is that in the aftermath, Audra has come out as identifying as a transman with the new name of Milo. In the YouTube videos I have watched regarding the situation posted after the announcement, people have generally been dutifully using the new name and preferred pronouns, but they have not changed the strength of their criticisms of the book (the writing, the character development, the lack of editing, etc.). Many people are still picking up on the early video where Winter identifies as a 'master' due to her 10,000 hours of writing experience.
