BBC Scotcast have released a long interview with Naomi Cunningham talking about Sandie Peggie's case and other issues.

They've also posted an article on the Scotland section of the BBC website about the interview.

Thanks OP.

Quote from the BBC Scotland website article:
She [Sandie] claimed that having to get changed beside her transgender colleague Dr Beth Upton - a biological male who identifies as a woman - amounted to unlawful harassment under the Equality Act.

Did I just read that description on the BBC website? Oh.My.God.😮

The BBC must be shitting itself after the doctored Trump footage fallout to be posting that on their website.

The floodgates have been well and truly opened at the BBC, and in Scotland too, sound the FWR klaxon 😱🥳

It is an incredible step forward, but...

(1) We have no idea what the BBC or Upton mean by "identifies as"... "claims to be but objectively isn't" seems to be the real meaning, so why not actually spell it out in the most honest and unbiased way possible - "a man - a biological male - who claims to be a woman despite objectively not being one, and who claims to be female despite being a doctor who must know that he is male".

(2) We have no idea what is in Uptons head, just that he claims to identify as something that he is not and cannot be. We have no idea whether he believes his claim, or whether he knows he is an autogynephile, predator or transvestic fetishist, and the identity claim is nothing more than dishonest cover.

I should be more positive... I still think there is more to do, further to go, but the step is the first biggest and most important one.

Shes laughing a lot. She is in Scotland as she sounds like shes in the studio.

Jane Russell declined to attend Scotcast.

I can only conclude that that she has a positive judgement in hand.

Thank you for the link OP. I've just listened and really enjoyed doing so. The interviewer has based his questions from the TRA point of view but there is no hostility and it gives NC the opportunity to refute the points he's making or simply to say "that's just misinformation". So, all in all a good interview and very refreshing that it comes from the BBC.

It was really enjoyable

A rare and welcome opportunity for the gender critical view to be discussed civilly. Brilliantly done by both interviewer and interviewee.

When Naomi was challenged about her assertion that nobody really believing TWAW, I really wanted her to point out that almost every single respondent witness misgendered Dr Upton at some point.

NebulousSadTimes · 27/11/2025 17:55

It's due to be shown on BBC1 Scotland at 00.10 tonight or 11 o'clock on BBC Scotland.

Pleasealexa · 27/11/2025 18:16

Listening ..delighted to hear her.

Although the BBC felt the need to give a warning that some of content could be upsetting. Saying "A man is a man"'is upsetting.

DustyWindowsills · 27/11/2025 18:39

And there's a piece on her in the Times (Scotland).

Looking forward to the time when we don't have to be pathetically grateful when media outlets use phrases like "born a man but identifies as a woman " and "biological male but identifies as a woman", and can expect them to straightforwardly use the term "man but identifies as a woman".

My money is on the judgement coming tomorrow

ok I did say that last week

Me too. All signs point to it.

And it will be good.

Tiddler1976 · 27/11/2025 19:26

I hope it's soon! I was convinced it would be today when I was in an all day event with no mobile signal and would be the last to hear the outcome. Fingers crossed it's tomorrow, as I think Sandie has waited long enough.

SquirrelosaurusSoShiny · 27/11/2025 19:28

We could all do with some good news after the budget 😁

Supporterofwomensrights · 27/11/2025 19:43

I adore Naomi. Can't wait for the verdict.

BettyFilous · 27/11/2025 20:01

I saw this thread and put Scotcast on at the start of my commute home, only I’d accidentally chosen an episode from 3 September where Naomi must have been mentioned. The host was interviewing two Scottish journalists who had been attending the tribunal daily and reporting on it. I realised my error at the first set of traffic lights and started today’s interview with Naomi.

Observations:
The tone had completely shifted.
The host was not downplaying this as a tiny little tribunal that no one would normally trouble themselves with.
Despite a few trigger warning it was not presented as the worst, most transphobic awfulness.
He trivialised it as a culture war every 5 mins in September but not today.

I’m inclined to agree with another poster. We’re in the 5 day embargo and BBC Scotland are desperately laying their golden bridge.

Indeed. Upsetting enough in another of her cases to dispose of a panel member and cause a witnesses to need urgent breaks.

Marvelously · 27/11/2025 20:09

My money is on good news tomorrow 😊
maybe I should take a trip to the bookies to hedge my bets.

We’ll know the tide has truly turned when the bbc give trigger warnings and apologies for saying trans identified men are women.

In all honestly I am hugely offended by men identifying as women and any suggestion of such, but I don’t go throwing my toys out of the pram.

OnAShooglyPeg · 27/11/2025 20:12

Thanks for this, really enjoyable. I'll check iPlayer tomorrow to see if the video version is available. The interviewer was clearly challenging NC's view, whether editorially or personally, but he was polite and allowed her to finish her points without talking over her or cutting her off too much.

A few points I've picked out:
I'm not quite sure why the interviewer was so irritated and almost blaming NC for JKR ignoring their interview requests. NC isn't responsible for JKR!

A very lawyerly and diplomatic response regarding JR and the, er, civilities between them!
