Trans activists try to ban gender-critical book ... again

Trans activists are trying for a second time to have a gender-critical book pulled from an exhibition at Scotland’s national library.

The Women Who Wouldn’t Wheesht, was removed from the National Library’s exhibition in the summer after LGBT staff claimed it was “hate speech”.

Following an outcry, the book was restored and Amina Shah, the library’s chairman, apologised to its authors.

However, activists have now urged the library to renege on that decision, arguing that the move has created a “hostile environment” for staff at the century-old institution.

The leaked open letter said: “We call upon the library urgently to change course, to make a strong public commitment to ensuring that all staff and visitors are able to access the library without fear.

“We condemn the series of decisions by the board and senior leadership that have led to a hostile environment for queer, trans, and allied staff of, and visitors to, the library.”

It seems to be very area specific though. In cities I am often struck by the sheer number of very middle class enbies everywhere in the charity/culture sector. It's not something seen outside of the metro middle class bubble and outside of those very specific city roles. And the lack of capacity to understand that the whole world is not inside this bubble is what is going to send Labour into the wilderness for another 15 years and mean Farage wins the next election, God help us.

The trouble is the disproportionate amount of influence held by this group, which really is plus ca change. Nip back a century and this was the same 'class' sending kids out to Australia. A century further back, deciding who got parish relief and who went to the workhouse. Dickens and Bronte were taking the piss out of this group in popular novels 200 years ago. There are mutters now about the massive lack of any actual diversity in these groups, the awareness is starting but these are the people who write the policies and do the hiring, which is how they've managed to avoid any actual diversity getting some oik not Like Them in their circles.

The difference is that these days, this group would be the ones boring the living hell out of you about their passionate identification as being against Colonialism, believing they are social justice warriors, believing they are progressive and inclusive and open minded..... they know all the words to say and can be tedious as fuck on the subject, without the self awareness to realise it's just sound and fury signifying nothing. If Custer rode out onto the field with a pronoun badge, shouting 'I am very pro land justice and am on the right side of history!' as he massacred people, it would not have made him a better person or changed what he was doing.

Re Northampton Tech Uni and trigger warnings.
Orwell’s book is one of a list of novels identified as having the potential to be "offensive and upsetting".
The other novels on the list include the works of Samuel Beckett, Alan Moore, David Lloyd and Jeanette Winterson.

If the staff feel threatened by books, maybe working in a library isn't the best career for them.

This 😆😆😆

It was my O level book for English literature back in 1982.

and university students now need a trigger warning for it.

And on the GCSE syllabus in 2022

How do they go from having to read it to needing a trigger warning in a couple of years???

What the actual fuck is wrong with them?

Inadequate executive function with narcissistic sprinkles.
