'Attack happened after armed gang in jumpsuits broke into Bristol defence factory intent on causing damage, jury hears.

Palestine Action activists hit a female police officer with a sledgehammer after bulldozing their way into a defence factory, a court has heard.

The gang, wearing jumpsuits and armed with whips, fireworks, an axe and a paintball gun, allegedly rammed an old prison van through the gate at Elbit Systems UK, Bristol, in August last year.

Woolwich Crown Court heard on Tuesday that Sgt Kate Evans suffered a fracture to her lumbar spine after she was beaten with a sledgehammer while she lay on the ground. Samuel Corner, 23, denies causing grievous bodily harm with intent.'

whether there was any intent to harm was disputed
Okay, right, next time I get the urge to clobber someone with a sledgehammer, I'll just go right ahead and expect an acquittal provided I do no lasting damage and say 'there was no intent to harm'?

Because that's how it works, right?

Someone please tell me that I'm missing something, and not living in a bloody dystopia.

I think so long as you dont break someone's spine really really badly its fine. Just swing the sledgehammer nicely.

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 06/02/2026 22:35

And do it in a good cause.

I wonder if that writer would feel so generous about a mallet applied to particularly vulnerable parts of his anatomy so long as it was in the name of the right political belief and the chances were good he'd be ok again in six months or so.

ArabellaSaurus · 06/02/2026 22:38

The Right Side of History doesnt break women's spines, it just gives them a light tap. To remind them of their complicity.

keepeofthesevenkeys · 06/02/2026 23:05

I'm surprised Craig Murray isn't trying to blame Israel for the police woman's fractured spine.

Quite.

In doing the job they were paid for and sent out to do, which is to stop people breaking the law and being violent, psychopathic thugs.

Attacking a police officer used to be one of the most serious things you could do and guaranteed you a tough time in prison, because you'd gone for someone who had to be there and had no choice about it. But those were in the wrong side of history days when people had ethics, morals, honourability, sanity, that kind of thing.

ArabellaSaurus · 07/02/2026 08:13

Large chunks of the populace are happy to supporr inanities like ACAB.

I really do feel for the woman - video footage of a man attacking her - twice - with a sledgehammer, is apparently not enough for some to consider grievous.

The Police federation have made a public statement about Zack Polanski's jubilant social media posts. It's very good, I'll see if I can find it.

MaturingCheeseball · 07/02/2026 10:00

Can you imagine if the policewoman had been filmed bashing “deep thinker and academic” Corner whilst he was face down on the ground?

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 07/02/2026 10:16

I’m absolutely disgusted with Craig Murray’s comments and all those parroting the same. The left have seriously lost their way.

Imnobody4 · 07/02/2026 18:22

Good news. I wonder why the request didn't come from Labour.

From Daily Mail.

But the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced today that it would be seeking a retrial and will reveal the indictment at a hearing scheduled for February 18.

In a statement, a CPS spokesperson said: 'Prosecutors are now considering the precise basis on which that retrial would proceed, including the form of the indictment, in accordance with CPS legal guidance.'

The move comes after shadow home secretary Chris Philp wrote to Stephen Parkinson, the director of public prosecutions, to call for a retrial of the criminal damage and GBH charges.

Craig Brown's article has made me feel physically sick. Heaven only knows how the police woman is feeling (hope she doesn't read it).

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 07/02/2026 20:56

I saw a headline that said the CPS is going to re-try them, but I can't find the link to where I read it, I hope it's true.

Chronologically after the SHS's intervention perhaps but the CPS would have pursued a re-trial anyway so the govt didn't need to intervene. Philp's engaging in a spot of self-promotion theatre.

I object to the title being in the plural. ONE violent man hit her with a sledgehammer, it’s not like several violent activists took turns.

ArabellaSaurus · 07/02/2026 22:32

A security guard also had teeth knocked out.

ArabellaSaurus · 07/02/2026 22:34

And two guards describe having sledgehammers swung at them, and in one case a whip.

Not hard to imagine how scary it must be to be hit by a sledgehammer. After all, surely any blow from a sledgehammer is more likely than not to cause serious injury, broken bones, organ damage etc. Seems that woman was very fortunate if she has escaped serious injury; life in a wheel-chair, or worse, could easily have been on the cards.

snowbear22 · 07/02/2026 23:39

They were tried in Woolwhich where residents are very Left wing and pro-Gaza, maybe juries are just getting more sectarian and political now, voting for their 'side'.
It seems to have happened in the US as well.

It is incredibly disappointing.

And bloody Zack Polanski’s face is everywhere. On the cover of The Graun weekend magazine today. What has this man done in his life? What commitment has he shown to environmental issues? What are his credentials?

He shows up out of nowhere, becomes the poster boy for the ‘progressive left’ and absolutely laps up all the attention because what? He spent so many hours role playing a prosecutor that he is quick with the sound bites? How depressing.

I hope it gives the police some food for thought for aligning themselves so enthusiastically with the Polanski’s of the uk on gender issues.

moto748e · 08/02/2026 00:16

It's hard to imagine that most (though not all, obviously) ordinary coppers at the coal-face are aligning themselves enthusiastically with Polanski. Their bosses, though, are another matter.

I imagine the Guardian are rooting for his party in the Gorton and Denton byelection.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/02/2026 01:33

I remember Rajiv Menon KC from Allison Bailey’s tribunal when he was the one being questioned. He was stroppy and petulant.

I'm afraid some sections of the populace are sealed in a hermetic echo chamber. They are not hearing any dissenting views, challenges to the prevailing orthodoxies are not allowed, and their critical thinking facilities have atrophied.

They only read approved sources on approved channels, and Othering has become lauded as being on The Right Side of History.

Concomitantly, things are hard and scary for a lot of people. Global politics are in a state of flux*, the economy is stuttering, food is expensive. People are feeling destabilised.

This presents fertile ground for con men who are willing and able to promise the moon on a stick. Step up, Zack Polanski. And Nigel Farage.

*its always in a state of flux.

MaturingCheeseball · 08/02/2026 11:46

Would the re-trial be in Woolwich? I don’t understand why it was there in the first place.
