It is a brilliant article. And I love it that more of us are finding it and enjoying it. ♥️

Walking past the described picture would make a pretty hostile work environment for someone who is GC

I'd lose weight fast and turn into a stick if that was my work environment.

This everything I have ever wanted - so BIGLY, so SCREENLY.

Have they sat outside in Northern Ireland after dark? How many warm, rain-free evenings do we get?

Was it nice; No. Was it important; Yes.

Nice was what got us into this mess in the first place. I'm over being nice.

Been out all day and just caught up. Many thanks to @ProfessorMyrtleLion for the NW tweets.

Since I didn't claim a Professorship, can I please have Culture Secretary and Fisheries Minister?

I just keep thinking how odd it would be to reply to a message along the lines of:
Hey, all a bit short notice but shall we have a bit of a do? Break out the big screen? I'm thinking bean bags/pick a film/no subtitles as we might be hungover? Thoughts on what we watch?
Michele

With:
Sara is a great big meanie.
X5 paragraphs
Ruth

A normal response is:
“Thanks Michele. Sounds exciting. I'll share this with our organising group in Rainbow Refugees. Our group
email address is [gives email.]
Take care
Catherine”

There is a missing input meaning the SAR can't have been replied to comprehensively... Anyone know if there's a 'decoy' response that Michele receives from Outburst which answers thoughts on the screening?

And also the oddness around providing the password to the work email account SM asked for. Wouldn't the normally helpful person - especially someone claiming responsibility for IT - check straight away to see someone has received it/there is evidence that they are back in the system or there is a functional OOO in play rather than waiting 3 or 4 months and then obfuscate/bury it?

You're forgetting how very, very busy MD is. And she had to go into the back end of the system every time.

It was too cold to spread and the chips were ready.

God everyone's a critic!!!!!!!!

😂

You need a butter curler.

Though the last time I suggested that to someone on MN I got a load of invective. Butter curlers are apparently very infra dig, non-U, whatever.

Infuriatingly I have about 3 butter curlers and can never find the bastards when I need them.

The bigly screen!

From the "inclusion" page of their website:

There are pictures of the beanbags too. They’re rather horrid, but I don’t like beanbags anyway.

I bet they are rank.

moto748e · 18/11/2025 18:46

Butter curlers went out just after WW2, didn't they? The problem is nutters who insist on keeping butter in the fridge, instead of leaving out in a butter dish like any sane person.

My kitchen is currently not much warmer than the inside of my fridge ☹️.

Luckily my butter curler lives in a Safe Place in the cutlery drawer.

Chariothorses · 18/11/2025 18:49

I am a bit bemused by the butter curlers chat. Wouldn't recognise one if I saw one.

If the butter is so cold it has to be treated like cheese and ends up in slices of >5mm I think we can stretch a point...

A marvellous invention. Good at hiding in cutlery drawers never to be seen again.

Some fridges in New Zealand used to have (maybe still do) a "butter conditioner". A small compartment in the door that kept the butter at a spreadable temperature. This never made any sense to me when I lived there.

There are lots of different sorts but currently mine is like this. It’s not the best, but it’s OK.

Would be amazing fun with play dough to make curly hair!

I’ve only visited NZ in the winter, and my brother’s butter problems there at that season are identical to mine.

What?! My beanbag is the best fifty quid I've ever spent.

ETA it is a weirdly waterproof outdoor-suitable beanbag and actually I concede that if I didn't know who else had been sitting on it, it might seem a bit insalubrious. (Unsalubrious? Someone correct me if necessary.)

NebulousProfessorSupportPostcard · 18/11/2025 18:59

@ProfessorBoiledbeetle did you ever watch MacDonald and Dodds, with Jason Watkins as Seargent Dodds who eats chip shop chips dipped in a pat of butter? You should try this for us!

DeanElderberry · 18/11/2025 17:21

You have no idea how relieved I am to read that. I was afraid you were weird.

I miss the days of paving over a slice of white bread with slabs cut from a block in the fridge - the only way to begin constructing a proper peanut butter sandwich.
