Another data scrape. I'd say it's also defamatory against Mumsnet.

I've archived.

Article is a load of tedious wank, as you'd expect.

'In this study, however, we excavate what it means to write like a GC by analyzing how GC forum users rely on reactionary language and deploy storytelling practices in ways that calcify their anti-trans ideologies as personal and natural while rendering transgender people as anti-feminist, dangerous, and monstrous. To identify how GC groups perform political mythmaking and construct extremist identities, we undertook a computationally assisted discursive analysis of two popular GC forums: Ovarit and Mumsnet’s “Feminism: Sex & Gender” board (abbreviated to “FSG”). Through comparative platform discourse analysis, we analyzed over 80k posts and comments scraped from Ovarit and over 60k posts and comments scraped from Mumsnet (Burgess and Matamoros-Fernández 2016; Lewis and Marwick 2017)'

The only mildly amusing thing about it is the name of the Journal.

BATS.

“I Took a Deep Breath and Came Out as GC”: Gender Critical Storytelling, Radicalization, and Discursive Practice on Ovarit and Mumsnet

Following the closure of the anti-trans subreddit r/GenderCritical, gender critical (GC) internet users have migrated to more obscure, invite-only spaces. A side-effect of this GC dispersal is that activity in online anti-trans spaces has become increa...

No amount of scraping can change biological facts.

Well if you want to say people can't change sex then that takes up just 4 words. We don't need 6 (or however many years it's been a hot topic) years scraping worth of 24/7 forum posts on trans people and what they eat for breakfast.

KittyWilkinson · 08/11/2025 21:11

Christinapple · 08/11/2025 21:06

I also agree AI scrapers should leave Mumsnet alone. AI, IMHO, is junk enough as is without training it on half a trillion words on how bad trans people apparently are.

How very transphobic of you.
Do your little pals know that you think trans people are bad?

Having waded through the "paper", I conclude that the authors take issue with women talking to each other and want to figure out how we do so in order to figure out how to stop us.

In other words, Rules 3, 4, and 14 dressed up in way too much word salad.

Antipathy Towards Sex-Workers

No, it's the men who pay to rape women that we have antipathy towards.

As we discuss in this section, in-group stories of peaking and subsequently “coming out” as GC, further reify fantasies that mainstream culture is silencing, canceling, or confusing vulnerable GC users

The evidence of multiple tribunal cases, starting with Forstater v CGD, prove that we are silenced. It's not a fantasy if it's actually happening.

To be fair, it’s clear that despite all efforts to silence us, they haven’t entirely managed, to the point where even polls are showing that we are winning the debate they refuse to engage in.

Oh and lads, when even Mumsnet’s resident men’s rights activists are cross with you, it might be time to hang up your crusty socks and get some fresh air.

How many hands are on on the games controller and how many under the desk?

You're just saying that because you've got two extra limbs!

EdithStourton · 08/11/2025 17:52

Madison is a bloke, yeah?
<waves> in case he scrapes again.

100% agree with @FlirtsWithRhinos that a spot of work on AIBU and Relationships would give them all a MUCH clearer idea of what it's like being a woman than spying on this board.

And @ArabellaSaurus is bang on about the tedious wank. Isn't it just?
'This study is a part of a multi-year investigation into anti-trans forums and is the first of two publications of our findings. Our analysis suggests that GC community forums are not isolated zones of anti-trans sentiment but culturally diffusive centers wherein users learn, practice, and proliferate anti-trans discursive habits.'
Yawn.
I wouldn't call myself anti-trans. If you want be trans, fill your boots. Just don't involve minors, and if you're a bloke, stay out of women's spaces and sports.

Absolutely this last point. Be as trans as you like but keep off women’s sports, changing rooms and toilets, awards and minors.

Greyskybluesky · 08/11/2025 21:15

So what are you saying @Christinapple ? If women hadn't been talking among themselves their comments wouldn't have been scraped?

My favourite bit was the "coming out" 'parties'/red pilling. 😂
I always suspected those threads were 'planted' by researchers not users looking to recruit new GC members because they just didn't seem authentic to me but maybe its both. I stopped reporting hateful comments to the mods as soon as I noticed the site was potentially being used for research tho.

While I get its important to identify communities & processes that are gateways to the far right & there were useful insights in this research my only beef was with the self inflicted isolation from family & friends critique which I think applies broadly. Most self respecting people can't in all good conscience stay in a close relationship with people who don't believe in equality in rights however misguided about what qualifies as equality they are.

I know that a lot of people will poo poo the research as deaf to the veracity of their grievances with trans people but so does the far right when it comes to immigration. The difference is the demonisation & dehumanisation of people points to something much uglier & dangerous.

ArabellaSaurus · 08/11/2025 21:40

It's spelled 'pooh-pooh'. If you say 'poo poo', you just sound like a toddler with a full potty.

Where do we send our subs?

Normal gaming is gaming while owning a dick, or not owning a dick. Transgenderuk gaming is gaming while owning a dick but pretending very hard to yourself that you don't.

IBorAlevels · 08/11/2025 21:48

Oh I hadn't heard of Ovarit, must go and check it out it seems!
I'm going to hazard a guess that the guy in the glasses is the author? Going for a job at the BBC no doubt.

Where do we send our subs?

Do we have to make our Terf Promise?

To do my duty to sprogs,
To serve up truth
And help my sisters
And keep blokes out of our bogs.”

You can pay them at the garden parties, they have one of those wee card readers, and sometimes they give out stickers too.

Here we are, a veritable GC army constantly scouting for new conscripts to our shadowy cause. Damnit, I knew they’d eventually see through our feminist façade. I’ll have to console myself by having a roll in my piles of right-wing cash.

I love this!

Honestly, the conspiracy theorising is just fucking hilarious. We can't be lots of women (and many supportive men) who just happen to believe in truth and biology. There has to be a 'movement' behind it.

Just because TRAs can't think for themselves.

“The Chrysalis of Identity” — A Beetle’s Interpretative Dance

Scene:

A softly lit forest clearing at dusk. Fireflies pulse like stage lights. A single beetle, clad in shimmering iridescent wing-capes and delicate antennae extensions, steps onto a mossy platform. The audience: a circle of attentive woodland creatures, seated on toadstools and curled-up leaves.

Act I: Biological Blueprint
🎵 Music: Rhythmic, pulsing drumbeats echoing heartbeat-like patterns.

The beetle begins with rigid, mechanical movements—sharp pivots, symmetrical leg extensions, and synchronized wing flutters.
Each motion mimics chromosomes locking into place, the choreography spelling out “XX” and “XY” with antennae gestures.
A brief duet with a second beetle illustrates reproductive anatomy—mirrored movements, then divergence.
🗣️ Narration (in pheromone bursts):

“Sex is the blueprint—assigned at birth, rooted in biology.”

Act II: The Fluid Flourish
🎵 Music: Ethereal strings and ambient tones, like wind through reeds.

The beetle sheds its rigid form, unfurling wing-capes dyed in shifting hues—blue, pink, gold, and green.
Movements become flowing, expressive: spirals, twirls, and pauses that linger like questions.
It mimics the act of choosing garments, names, pronouns—each gesture a declaration of self.
The beetle dances with a mirrored version of itself, now adorned differently, showing that identity can evolve.
🗣️ Narration (in scent trails):

“Gender is the dance—performed, felt, expressed. Not fixed, but fluid.”

Act III: Harmony and Dissonance
🎵 Music: A blend of the previous themes—biological beats and expressive melodies intertwine.

The beetle now moves between both styles, sometimes rigid, sometimes fluid.
It encounters other beetles—some who match its rhythm, others who challenge it.
Together, they form a kaleidoscope of movement, each honoring their own truth.
🗣️ Final message (etched in dew on a leaf):

“Understanding blooms when we let the dance unfold.”

Thankyou for posting this. I was scrolling away hoping for some clarity and felt a bit too shy to ask for a link. And then you appeared. And it's everything I was hoping it would be 😁
