Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Your Corbyn/Sultana Party - Discussion thread - Part 2

The YP starting conference is in the ACC in Liverpool between 29-30 November so only three weeks off. With competing factions involving Islamic conservatives, every variety of Marxist/Communist, former Labour members, trade union activists, entryists from SWP and SPEW, splitters from the Scottish Greens, trans activists and actual left wing feminists [not the nice kind] it is difficult to underplay how much controversy there is likely to be. So we will need a second thread in advance.

Thus far following the internal drama of the UKs newest left party has taken a whole thread. It has been a wild ride and the party still does not have a name.

The natural end state of a group involving Corbyn and the Gaza independents is an Islamoleft party that focuses heavily on Gaza and other areas of shared agreement and avoids divisive issues like trans.

This is what Your Party may have become without Sultana's involvement, and what it still may become if she's pushed out (or flounces).

Browning still has an X account [which makes money for Elon Musk ust by existing so that is huge hypocrisy] and has gone after Adnan.

Eryn Browning ⚢ ⚧︎

Adnan, you publicly claimed that trans women pose a threat to the safety and rights of cis women despite all evidence pointing otherwise. As for my history with the greens, I'm damn proud of everything I achieved, and the mistake I made when 16 will never change that.

https://nitter.net/Eryn__Browning/status/1994908434312171817

So you made a "mistake" because you were a horny boy in a dress who doesn't respect girls. Note there are countless millions of boys not wearing dresses who never did that. Yes obviously Twatty teenage sexist boys are a thing, BUT guess what most grow up and learn to control themselves. To do that they have to master themselves not deny who they are.

Browning you are sexist and also obviously a religious bigot. If you have an issue with Islam SAY it. Call the religion out. Like an adult.

Or maybe you think Islam is great except when it affects you. You are too scared to call out an entire sexist religion so you target a handful of Muslims who say openly what they think.

Where is this evidence which points otherwise?

SionnachRuadh · 30/11/2025 14:02

Tom Watson is obviously as fascinated by Ayoub Khan's story as I am. But I don't believe Ayoub is old enough to have been hired by a South Wales carpet salesman to bump off his party leader's secret gay lover.

We Jeremy Thorpe scholars are a small niche, but it's such a strange and darkly funny story that I often return to it, especially when there's an opportunity to pull the leg of a friend in the Lib Dems.

Oh yes I do remember reading about Jeremy Thorpe! I was just wondering what that had to do with the weird dog story!

Lalgarh · 30/11/2025 14:14

He tried to have his Secret Gay Toy boy assassinated but ended up killing a dog he was walking instead.

Until we heard Ayoub Khan's story it was Jeremy Thorpe's Rinka that was the most famous dead dog in UK politics.

Until we heard Ayoub Khan's story it was Jeremy Thorpe's Rinka that was the most famous dead dog in UK politics.

It was made into a TV drama a few years ago, with Hugh Grant playing Thorpe, which is enormous fun.

Danny Finkelstein did a piece in the Times on its historical accuracy:

So you are saying that the leader of the Liberal Party, one of the most famous men in the country, urged on his best man, who contacted a carpet dealer, who involved a fruit-machine manufacturer, who asked a T-shirt printer, who found him an airline pilot, who shot dead the Liberal leader’s former homosexual lover’s dog?

Yes.

It was the telephone call he had been waiting for all his life. Could he come to see the prime minister? John Jeremy Thorpe was on the brink of power. In March 1974 the Liberal Party leader was 45 years old and at the peak of a political career that had...

I keep meaning to get round to watching that. I definitely will now! Maybe the Lib Dems ( or former) need to stay away from dogs and dog stories from now on?

SionnachRuadh · 30/11/2025 14:34

There's a lot of really mad stuff that didn't make it into the drama. Harold Wilson believed the South African secret service was trying to frame Thorpe, which might have just been Wilson's paranoia, or it might not.

And if you go on YouTube, you can still find the party political broadcast Thorpe did that was hosted by, of all people, Jimmy Savile.

she's on about nationalising food production again]

SionnachRuadh · 30/11/2025 14:40

The thing I can never get over is that Port Talbot fruit machine manufacturer George Deakin, who I think is the only surviving defendant from the Thorpe trial, is the uncle of the guitar player in Black Lace, of 'Agadoo' fame.

Is she explaining what she means? Is she just drunk on power or is she now just a puppet of the SWP now that they have been expelled? Although if the members have voted to allow other parties to join and they allow all the Communist parties in, this will be the kind of thing that will be on the agenda. I think they are very naive if they don't think allowing people like this in won't mean they will flood the party and pull it into a pretty far Left (unpopular and unelectable) party. Its pretty much their MO.

SionnachRuadh · 30/11/2025 14:58

Well, I think temperamentally she's one of those people who just feels you can never be too radical. She's like a left wing version of Nick Fuentes. Which is good for getting an online following, but not so good for getting voters to agree with you.

No she just tagged it onto nationalising everything and stopping private jets not immigrant boats.

on to voting options. The lady in he green head dress is asking to speak to ' the person in the keffiyah' who is near 'the person with the green or blue hair'.

This does not narrow things down

What's not clear about my post? I'm not under any obligation to provide support for anything you say. FFS I didn't even disagree with you. I just admit that I don't know anything about the subject so don't have an opinion to offer. It's bizarre that you seem to take that as some kind of offensive slight against your view or, now, against rape victims.

Is this new rule that everybody has to explicitly signal their support for everything you say or be a rape apologist site-wide, or just for this thread?

It's a discussion. Nobody has requested you must "support" anything.

Historically any 'Islamoleft' collaboration has ended up with the Left thinking they have the upper hand and politely ignoring the most far Right views of the Islamic faction (Racial superiority, diminishing the humanity of other groups, women in the home breeding the new Master Race, misogynist and homophobic, dictatorial tendencies) because they think that once the Islamists are exposed to the superior wisdom of the Left that they will realise their silly religion is just silly and decide to embrace democracy (Sultana has basically said this about Palestine) The Left then get their arses handed to them on a plate if they are lucky and in a place where beheadings or being lined up against the wall and shot are illegal. Not that I am saying the Islamic Independent MP's are Islamofascists but I bet they are religiously based over and above anything else, including socialism, and socially pretty much further Right than the Conservatives or possibly reform

It’s massively entertaining, even if it was written by Russell T Davies, who we don’t approve of any more.

It’s massively entertaining, even if it was written by Russell T Davies, who we don’t approve of any more.

There's a bit of RTD author filibuster in there about the out and proud Norman Scott being the future and the closeted Thorpe being the past. It's not completely true to the real life Scott, who has a conflicted attitude to his sexuality, who's not quite as sympathetic as he's portrayed, and who's definitely not as camp as Ben Whishaw plays him. I feel that they flatten out Norman's complex personality to make him a 21st century gay man in a mid 20th century setting.

But as a drama, it's excellent. Hugh Grant is an amazing Thorpe, Patricia Hodge and Monica Dolan are great as his mother and wife, and people who knew Peter Bessell say Alex Jennings nails him. Whishaw is also very good even if he's playing a sort of idealised Norman. A lot of people who were also in The Crown, and it feels like an irreverent spinoff of that.
