It suddenly occurred to me that he is a pervert who is getting off on being scolded on Twitter for his offensive posts about women.
So if you join in, you are feeding his pleasure, not shaming him. Like seeing a flasher, he is parading his fetish at us and forcing us to join in.
I might be wrong, but it does make him funny and pathetic rather than infuriating.
I wonder how often that is true, probably more than we care to think.
