BBC Whistleblower report mentions censorship of 'trans debate'

Briefly mentioned in reporting around the Panorama Trump speech 'doctoring'.

Can't find anything else about it yet but it's excellent to see coverage of what we've known for ages.

Could the recent change in BBC reporting style of stories involving TiM be to do with this?

Apologies if there's already a thread but I couldn't find one.

Also, this in relation to some points made above about cynicism etc:

"Mass propaganda discovered that its audience was ready at all times to believe the worst, no matter how absurd, and did not particularly object to being deceived because it held every statement to be a lie anyhow. The totalitarian mass leaders based their propaganda on the correct psychological assumption that, under such conditions, one could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of their falsehood, they would take refuge in cynicism; instead of deserting the leaders who had lied to them, they would protest that they had known all along that the statement was a lie and would admire the leaders for their superior tactical cleverness."

Agree with PPS that there do seem to be a remarkable number of quiz contestants this week who are instantly recognisable as men despite their attempting to disguise this…it’s now less about answering the questions , more about guessing how many and which!

Yeah…I did comment to DH that the ‘six points and no passes’ on this week’s Mastermind was correct on more than one level…

An example of how "it's true but you can't say it" works in practice:

During the monkeypox outbreak, the Biden administration and some state and local authorities talked about it in a very opaque way. I assume they had a muscle memory of the AIDS crisis and the one lesson they took from that was that you can't stigmatise sexual minorities. So there was a lot of messaging implying that monkeypox is a very mysterious disease, we don't really know how it spreads, anyone can get it, just call a doctor if you notice any of the symptoms.

In NYC, where the culture is left leaning but definitely not politically correct, and where they had obviously drawn different lessons from the AIDS crisis, the health authorities were very bluntly saying "GAY MEN! If you've been having casual sex with multiple anonymous partners, you need to get vaccinated NOW!"

I think the blunt NYC approach is much better. When public health is at stake, you can't fart about with etiquette.

I remember turning on BBC radio in 2020, just before the US election, and this woman was on spouting pure propaganda about Trump. I listened out for the name because she was being so biased.

It was Marianna Spring. She now runs BBC Verify. She significantly lied about her work experience to get the job. Her first podcast at BBC Verify was full of numerous untruths, some of which were completely absurd (she said Tommy Robinson had literally brainwashed 50% of the men of one village).

Every BBC report on trans describes men as women, and BBC Verify has never once said a word about it

BBC Verify is basically at this point the Ministry of Truth from Orwell's 1984.

Edited to add: I just looked at the BBC Verify website. Yup Ministry of Truth. NOTHING about the doctored video deliberately created to mislead and cause harm to one of the candidates right before a foreign democratic election.

And on 'Only Connect'. It's the profiles that confirm it. None on 'University Challenge' this week, though.

This scandal is going to be covered by The Media Show currently on Radio 4. No indication of when it will be covered and whether they'll save it to the last 2 minutes of the programme and quickly dispatch it.

Sometimes this programme does ask decent questions so let's see.

Not a fan of Trump but remember years ago now when Trump was first running. Was listening to late night radio talk while driving. Country was in disbelief Trump was running, the mockery, scorn, disgust at the time was huge throughout the country. This guest (can’t remember who) just said of how everything we get from Tump from our media is coming through a bias. This country has decided against Trump and everything we get is laced with that - that no other Presidential candidate had been treated to this degree of scorn and ridicule- from our media.

he said it so much better in a way that even though i was scathing of Trump myself - i realised he was right

That makes sense. We have been fed a line by our state broadcaster that has an agenda. It clearly has a very biased agenda on a number of topics - it just makes me wonder how many.

Gosh, she is Miss Misinformation UK.

What a surprise that a lying liar is part of BBC Verify who have also been caught lying.

I used to be a defender of the BBC. They are utterly destroying their trusted brand but the people in charge can’t see what they are doing. What has happened to some people’s brains? It’s like a mass brainwashing and they think they are in the right.

SionnachRuadh · 05/11/2025 16:30

Clearly the only thing to be done with BBC Verify is to remove Marianna Spring and replace her with a more trusted character. What's Jeffrey Archer doing at the moment?

I am horrified that the BBC edited the Trump speech. I don't know what the hell they were thinking. I know the BBC lie and slant the trans stuff, gloss over women's rights issues and their obsession with drag queens is insane but I can't believe that they would edit a speech by Trump in this way. I'm hoping the criticism of their trans coverage is going to be just as juicy to be honest. It's time they were held to account.

I too am completely shocked. What they did could not have been more false or disgraceful.

Yrs, we watched thise shows together.

DD said ‘that’s not really a woman is it?’

Mastermind guy spoke so quietly all the way through, maybe to disguise his voice? It tickled me that his specialist subject was a computer game.

OC guy started off trying to use his lady voice but then abandoned it by question 2.

For such such a tiny minority who are so oppressed and scared to leave the house, they get their faces on tv a lot.

nauticant · 05/11/2025 16:45

On The Media Show now.

nauticant · 05/11/2025 16:50

There was a lead-in to this segment. Mishal Husain was briefly asked about the scandal and said that the BBC can't win on the question of bias but tries hard. That's pretty much but we're good people so we won't have done anything bad.

When they got onto the segment proper, the analysis was: this is what the BBC did and here are the denials of wrongdoing by the BBC. Dispatched pretty quickly.

So, it looks like it's up to the Culture, Media, and Sport select committee.

TBH why does anybody care about this. Trump is a rapist, a fraudster and a total fuckwit, who should be in prison not the Whitehouse.

We need our national broadcaster to tell the truth. They have failed in a very basic way by editing Trump's speech to completely change his meaning. The irony is that Donald Trump says so many dumb things that you don't really need to edit his speeches like this. However, it is appalling journalism.

That may be true but is not the point.

The point is that the BBC is not supposed to create fraudulent news.

BBC biased on trans issues - reveals report

And in other shocking news it has been proved that..., Bears Shit in the Woods

We are still waiting for The Telegraph to cover the report's take on the BBC's transgender bias but meanwhile...

You’re missing the point. Everything you said might be true, but it’s still unacceptable for our state broadcaster to doctor video footage and misrepresent what Trump said. You might not mind it when it targets someone you dislike, but once we start normalising this kind of manipulation, it sets a dangerous precedent.

'BBC trans coverage ‘censored’ by its own reporters'

www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/df639d930cb8b28e

SionnachRuadh · 05/11/2025 20:01

The story that each person told me was what sounded like effective censorship by the specialist LGBTQ desk within News.

As virtually all shows had lost their own reporters, programme editors had to make requests to News if they wanted a correspondent to cover a story. I was told that time and time again, the LGBTQ desk staffers would decline to cover any story raising difficult questions about the trans debate.

The allegation made to me was stark: that the desk had been captured by a small group of people promoting the Stonewall view of the debate and keeping other perspectives off-air. Individual programmes had come to lack their own reporters as a counterweight.

What I was told chimed with what I saw for myself on BBC Online - that stories raising difficult questions about the 'trans agenda' were ignored even if they had been widely taken up and discussed across other media outlets.

Lovelyview · 05/11/2025 20:02

'A BBC spokesman said: “While we don’t comment on leaked documents, when the BBC receives feedback it takes it seriously and considers it carefully.' So all the complaint rejections we got were after careful consideration apparently.

SionnachRuadh · 05/11/2025 20:04

Surprisingly high number of stories about drag queens... says a lot that the BBC needed a review to tell it that.

I was just coming back to note that. We’ve been saying it for years haven’t we.

I’m ashamed of what the BBC has become.
