You wouldn't even know it was Halloween round my way. There is nothing. No decorations, no kids, nothing. It's bliss.

Look, just look. And the sound is really cool as well.

That was wonderful.

No callers here, which just as well as the house is being left to Brains and Batshit to look after for the evening.

Brains would eat all the sweets, and Batshit would be Sad - she likes sweet things, but by the time she'd decided what she fancied, it would be inside Brains.

SionnachRuadh · 31/10/2025 19:29

Not much evidence of Halloween round by me. I suspect all the fireworks were used up for Diwali.

I have no plans other than watching a Vincent Price fillum or two.

I knew Tony really well. He was absolutely lovely. And hilarious.

I was trying to remember who was being interviewed in ? a shopping centre when someone went by with a noisy trolley & he came out with a cross, "There's always someone with a f!"£ing wonky wheel," or something like that. Seeing his name makes me think it might be Tony Banks, but I can't find a film of it.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/10/2025 20:06

Only two houses are doing Halloween round here. One is draped in cobwebs & gruesome stuff all over the house & front garden. The other has a single orange-leaved acer in the garden, & a matching small pumpkin: stylish.

Aaww, none of the parents have dressed up here.
I'm still waiting for the brother and sister that sing a gaelic song every year, all verses of the song, every time you think "that's it" there's another verse. At least they are very good singers.

What makes them think the hedgehog was angry? It just looks cute and then even cuter to me
I suppose it did take quite a bit of coaxing to eat the piece of apple, but it obviously enjoyed it in the end.

I love that ad with the cool harmonica-playing foxes, Jane - how on earth did they come up with the idea? what were they on?Grin
I've had lots of little callers this evening - I ran out of apples and treats by about 7.15.
But most of the 'smallies' had called by then - the 3 Spidermen, the countless ghouls, the spooky dolls, a couple of aliens - and three little lads dressed up as a SWAT team - I gave them extra treats in return for not storming my house and arresting me😃
After 7pm it tends to be older kids who are probably hoping to get money instead of treats; they got neither.

Quite a few parents dressed up as well. It was all great fun, I love Halloween🎃

Hedgehogsrightsarehumanrights · 31/10/2025 20:27

I am not keen on apple but discovered it had been gently stewed. So was okay

DeanElderberry · 31/10/2025 20:45

Some twerp has been letting off loud fireworks and Rosy has run off somewhere (inside the house). I hope she doesn't do her scaredy-cat trick of shedding all the fur on her lower belly, it makes her look so silly.

It's starting to rain quite heavily which is good.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/10/2025 22:05

I used to pad my basket of sweets with satsumas decorated as pumpkin lamps with a sharpie - some of the kids actually chose them

ErrolTheDragon · 31/10/2025 22:09

I’ve just watched the foxes and the hedgehog, both excellent thanks,

Britinme · 01/11/2025 00:19

We forgot to buy chocolate so we’re hunkered down with no outside lights on so no trick or treaters.

MarieDeGournay · 01/11/2025 10:39

Morning all! Beautiful sunny morning here, yesterday we prepared ourselves for the dark time of year, but we've been given a day's reprieveSmile

That's lovely, I might do that next year.
As well as sweets, I give everybody an apple - a very pretty highly polished little red apple, which are surprisingly popular - one kid asked last night 'Oh wow - is it real??'Smile

It’s been pissing down here but there’s a break in the clouds now - enough blue to make a sailor a pair of trousers, as my DM used to say.

DeanElderberry · 01/11/2025 11:08

Sunny with the odd sprinkle of rain. I decided the ever growing 'to be washed' pile could no longer be ignored (partly because the 'fit to wear' pile was getting small, so there are outer clothes on the line and underwear on sundry airers beside radiators. I also picked/picked up enough Bramleys to see me through until February if not beyond.

Lovely phrase.
Same here. I should be gardening.

Spotted on Dr Francis Young''s xtwitter, a Scandinavian Bronze Age divine moose. Very like someone we know.

Beautiful first thing here too, but from late morning it's gone downhill and is now grey and soggy again.

Really showing my age here by confessing I still say that sometimes. 😳

DeanElderberry · 01/11/2025 16:39

I got my clothes in from the line, dryer than they went out, shortly before it started to rain.

Pal whose book launch we bailed on phoned, it went well, we were right to play it safe, and she's having a local mini-launch and I have to speechify. Which is really NOT FAIR because the only reason I'm in the firing line is because the stinkers made me chairperson of an organisation when I was too distracted to object.

However.

All Saints Day.

Must keep trying to tidy my kitchen.

SionnachRuadh · 01/11/2025 17:09

I haven't been to a book launch in far too long. I enjoy them, but there's always a wee bit of guilt because I already have far too many unread books... and it feels a bit crap to go along saying "I'd like to hear Phil talk about his book, but I'm not actually going to buy his book."
