Hobbycraft employee badge - no terfs, no Tories

ItsCoolForCats · 27/10/2025 18:36

Another example of why bringing your whole self to work is a terrible idea.

Hobbycraft seems to be busy trying to mitigate the fallout, presumably because they know which demographic spends the most money there.

EXCLUSIVE: Perthshire designer 'ordered to leave' Dundee Hobbycraft shop after transgender rights badge row

Crieff woman Rebekah Chapman claims she was subjected to "intolerance and nasty slogans" after complaining about a staff member's "no terfs, no Tories" badge.

So if this Hobbycraft assistant had worn a badge saying 'No Trans. No Socialists' ... that would be acceptable?

@MarvellousMonsters are you going to answer this question?

No. Any badge like that is unacceptable, especially at work.

As I said in my second post on this thread, I was being flippant about the Tories bit. I then had people get worked up about my condemnation of the Tory party, and explained why its important to not dismiss it as ‘just politics’ in the way the #BeKind brigade think we should let Nigel-in-a-frock into women’s safe spaces.

If someone’s ‘beliefs’ (or political policies) actively harm others, they should be condemned, this ‘agree to disagree’ dismissal is allowing the likes of Michelle Mone to defraud the country by supplying PPE that wasn’t fit for purpose and put NHS staff at risk during covid, and never be prosecuted or pay it back

ArabellaSaurus · 28/10/2025 13:37

Criticising and countering political views is all good and well in a healthy democracy.

Calling other people 'vermin' is not that.

ArabellaSaurus · 28/10/2025 13:39

You can go ahead and condemn policies all you like, and I might have engaged with the issues you'd raise, had you not shown your hand by using dehumanising rhetoric.

ArabellaSaurus · 28/10/2025 13:43

I'm unsure if people professing to be on the left have become more extreme and violent in rhetoric, or if I've only started to notice it more in the past few years.

There have always been people who were happy to hurl terms like 'scum' and 'vermin' at anyone they think is a Tory, I suppose.

The irony is, the Tories are a spent force and largely irrelevant in the UK today.

I suppose a pivot to monstering Reform voters is the inevitable next step in the depressingly hollowed out, tribal and simplistic tit-for-tat that passes for discourse today.

Imagine if we actually tried listening to each other and trying to understand, in good faith. Fuck me, we could move mountains.

Terfs and Tories make me spew
There's no hate on my menu
Tolerance and self-respect
Loosen up my gag reflex'

Tolerance, except of people you disagree with, ffs.

38thparallel · 28/10/2025 13:47

@MarvellousMonsters thank you for answering my question.

SionnachRuadh · 28/10/2025 13:50

The thing is, it's not just that dehumanising rhetoric bothers me, it's also lazy. It's people thinking they're being clever when they're recycling Jasper Carrott's "Sun reader" jokes from 45 years ago.

I suspect a lot of it's about this flattering self-image of people on the left being smarter, more morally good, the decent people in society, simply because they're on the left. Polly Toynbee does this a lot. It's not an idea that survives contact with the world of left-wing activism, which contains some of the worst people I know.

Yes, this is it, really. They think that being on the left means they are always right and always better than everyone else, even when they're bullying others, being intolerant, having women cancelled for their views, and all the rest of it.

I would like to point out we aren't all like that on the left, and some of us really are tolerant in the true sense of the word, but as usual, the worst aspects of the group are shouting the loudest!

And, as if the song needed to be any more distasteful, the reference to a gag reflex being loosened is particularly 🤮

The words "ick" and "yum" both make me want to vomit tbh, especially when uttered by grown adults.

Swiftasthewind · 28/10/2025 14:13

Their morals are rotten to the core
Keep the Tories out our store
Reform supporters make us mad
Kick them out so they’ll be sad

ArabellaSaurus · 28/10/2025 14:14

Your poetry is just as good as I'd have expected. Masculine end rhymes all the way, eh? It would scan better if you omitted 'are' in the first line. And punctuation wouldn't go amiss.

Perhaps selective reading is Brave & Stunning?

BTW, Abraham Lincoln was a Republican Shock

Yes, and he was probably one of the finest men in history!

Yes and sent her children to private school.

This reminds me of an independent craft seller I used to buy from when I had spare money. Then she posted how awful JKR is and that she doesn't want money from anyone who supports JK.
So I stopped buying from her and assume others did too. Now she posts a lot about how she's lost a lot of sales and she doesn't know why.

Yeah, i used to follow vintage style/pinup Cherry Dollface on Facebook, until she came to the UK and posted a video saying "F**k JK Rowling", so i posted a comment & unfollowed her. They'll have to learn the hard way.

What have the ‘right’ ever got right about anything? They pretty much are the epitome of having the wrong opinions on everything. Hence why they are hated.

Blimey you really are UTTERLY blinkered.

If you’re making the point that this country is inundated with proto-fascists then you won’t see any disagreement from me.

Ah, everyone who disagrees with you is fascist.. OK

You might want to purchase a dictionary. 🙄

Your argument appears to be:
They are wrong because everyone hates them.

(Everyone doesn't hate them, clearly).

Everyone is wrong then.

When do the schools go back?
