Met Police set to reopen 9,000 cases in major London grooming gangs probe

In some incidences, children as young as 11 who reported being raped saw trials against their attackers collapse and were left to become victims of further abuse.

Suspected grooming gang and child exploitation cases from the last 15 years will be reviewed as part of the investigation, Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said in letter to Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan on Friday evening.

A government-ordered audit into the grooming gangs scandal earlier this year found there is “mismatch” in the way the Met and London local authorities record child abuse.

Baroness Louise Casey’s report said the force logged 2.77 contact child sexual abuse cases per 1,000 children, while boroughs recorded just 1.3 child-in-need assessments for child sexual exploitation and 1.79 for child sexual abuse.

There also appears to be a significant overlap between child sexual abuse and county lines drug trafficking gangs.

Oh great, more news to make the knuckle
draggers blame Muslims for all the problems in this country. I bet the press were rubbing their hands with glee when this came across their desks.

What a disgusting framing of 9000 child abuse cases. You sound just like all those in authority back in the day - refusing to protect those girls. Astounding that some still feel comfortable publicly taking this stance.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 26/10/2025 12:33

yes. The worst thing about 9,000 children being sexually abused being that people a poster feels superior to might get upset about it is quite the take

Vitriolinsanity · 26/10/2025 08:06

Where are they suddenly getting the expertise and funds to do? Did they have all these officers and cash doing something more important?

The present Labour government have told all police forces they have to do this review. They have also brought in a law which states it will be mandatory for anyone working with dc to report suspected abuse.
For some reason the media aren’t willing to highlight anything good this goverment have actually done.

Bringemout · 26/10/2025 12:51

Oh god my heart hurts for these children, an 11yr old with 3 STD’s, what a dark and short life she had. It’s fucking horrific. It’s difficult to comprehend how fucking evil some men are. I still don’t understand how people ignored this stuff and felt absolutely fine about it. Or are still trying to ignore it.

I was on the Sadiq Khan thread, it was all “oh everyones racist”. Thread just died after I posted evidence that he clearly must have known. Massive institutional failure and we need to ask some hard questions about how and why some groups are over represented in some particularly horrendous crimes. Theres no point in avoiding it especially after the survivors have said they were told to avoid talking about race and culture despite the fact that they and Casey thought it was important.

Feel so sad.

Absolutely gross, isn't it. All these inconvenient women making men look bad by talking about the men's actions.

Dear god, don’t even know where to start with that, men who rape make themselves look bad. No-one has to do that for the. Also we don’t know the ethnicities of the perpetrators in London, why did you assume they were muslim?

@LizzieSiddal what do you think the reason for this review is? It was always supposed to focus on the grooming gangs phenomenon and that’s why their hand was forced into doing it.

I assume no such thing, I know that 99% of sexual violence in London is committed by White British men. It’s the perception of the rest of the country that bothers me, they see the word grooming and they automatically think ‘Pakistani’ or ‘Muslim’. It’s a dog whistle essentially.

Another Labour supporter wanting to save the reputation of the Social Workers who blamed the girls.

That you Lucy? 🙄

defrazzled · 26/10/2025 13:46

@Swiftasthewind can you provide the data to support that information? 99% of all sexual violence in London is comited by white men is not what I have seen. Here The Sun uses data from the Met which suggests otherwise with Romanians having the highest number of charges and Afghan men the most per capita. Please can you show where your figure comes from.

99%? Going to need to see a source for that.

Here is mine from 2022…

This is very clear on the ethnicity of the perpetrators: https://ispruk.substack.com/p/uk-grooming-gangs-deriving-per-capita

Thank you - this needs spreading far and wide to combat the well meaning but totally misguided assumptions of the pro uncontrolled immigration lobby.

As only 27% of Londoners are white men and the figures show that Asian men (not Chinese Asian) and black men have far higher rates of offending per head, your claim is utterly wrong.

Well then you should look forward to the results of the investigations which will no doubt show the offenders are 99% white. 🙄.

God who even cares, I want these people in prison whoever they are. Just remove the animals from society.

Where to start. Why the hell do police forces need to have to be told to investigate? Why is there a need for a new law? Did we not have a police force whose very mandate is to investigate. Did we not already have a law that says rape is illegal?

I don’t care which Government is getting the slow handclap for ordering this national disgrace be rectified.

Nine thousand children, 300 full classes of children, weren’t afforded the force of existing laws and police time. Why? On who’s watch?

Bringemout · 26/10/2025 16:49

I think what got me with the cases in the north is that a child cannot consent to sex. So even if the policemen decided it was consensual weren’t they duty bound to still arrest any man who was engaging in sexual activity with a child.

I think the spate of people getting visits for posting stuff on the internet really throws this in stark relief.

9,000 cases?
Did it not occur to them that there might be a pattern of some sort here?

Bloody hell. Lost for words.

It's just women and girls.

See it all over the threads, people jump to racism so easily, like child rape is just an afterthought. Thats from actual women. The actual victims are the communities the perpetrators come from dontcherknow. Shouldn’t be surprised given how quickly women were thrown under the bus as a result of TRA bullying.

It blows my mind. If it were my community instead of accusing everyone of racism I’d be wondering how the fuck we got here and do i know anyone who would do something so despicable.

9000 cases is just a tsunami of offending. We need to build more prisons.

Vitriolinsanity · 26/10/2025 17:13

And then you have to wonder. If it’s 9,000 cases (300 full classrooms) how many were not even reported.

Couldn't agree more. I wish people would stop deflecting from the root cause of this issue ... which is blatant misogyny.

Vitriolinsanity · 26/10/2025 17:17

And that’s is just the Met. Now let’s expand that to every police force.

Google tells me there are 43 police forces just in England and Wales.

Cardomomle · 26/10/2025 17:18

@frostedpixie and @Bringemout that's been the serious underlying problem with this for years.
Girls and women are so low down the list of priorities for men, they would rather men go free than awkward questions get asked.
