Judge throws out Graham Linehan’s ‘meaningless’ bail conditions

Ban on writer contacting alleged victims removed because it could ‘mean anyone from the transgender community’

The limitations placed on the Father Ted creator were criticised for using the loaded term “victim” when no offence had been proven.

District judge Michael Snow further said that the ban on Mr Linehan contacting his alleged victims was too vague to be applicable, because “anyone from the trans community could take offence”.

It just shows how impractical and overreaching the TRA's demands are, which we all realised but when it's calmly considered by a judge it's even more highlighted.

ArabellaSaurus · 18/10/2025 08:10

Took a while.

Igmum · 18/10/2025 13:11

Good. Now let’s have some sanity in the Police.

PastaAllaNorma · 18/10/2025 13:26

So the police didn't even turn up to defend their nonsense, whereas it took five of them to arrest Graham in the first place.

Doesn't this just show that it wasn't about evidence, it was more about who has the power to make the police jump through hoops.

And is such a public way. At Heathros with armed police.

Given the alleged charge (as said on earlier threads) they could have just contacted him and told him to come to which ever police station at what ever time.

It was all a performance.

And makes it look like, given the timing (ie court appearance) nothing more than a coordinated effort to try and create a negative image in the media of Glinner.

The Judge is actually saying that Linehan offended an entire group of people at once, more than once, so it’s little use having a bail condition upon him not to contact an individual within that group. I wouldn’t necessarily frame it as a win for Glinner.

Christinapple · 19/10/2025 12:27

I have to ask- why is it so important GL must continue to contact the trans people he is harassing?

The process is the punishment.

This is similar to all the arrests made around protests that lead to no charges being filed.

No, the judge did not say that. Given that everyone is legally innocent until proven guilty, the judge would have to have been quite stupid to say anything of that sort. In fact, the judge makes the point that nothing has been proven so there are no victims and is excoriating of the police.

Judge Snow said: “The phrase not to contact ‘victims’ is a loaded term – nothing proved to date.

He's or contacting them, they're choosing to read his twitter thread and faking an attack of the vapours.

HTH.

Because that is what the court case is about. Whether Glinner has the right to free speech or whether TRAs can deny him this right by saying everything he says is a personal harassment to each of them.

He wasn't contacting anyone. Do you not understand how twitter works?

thirdfiddle · 20/10/2025 17:12

At least someone at the CPS has some sense. So now Linehan sues the police for wrongful arrest or something. I mean, as always with these things, we have no right to demand people take up their time and energy challenging things, but it would be a public service.

thirdfiddle · 20/10/2025 17:13

I assume the sort of "contacting" that consists of failing to prevent people he's already blocked from getting their friends or sock accounts to read his Twitter.

SinnerBoy · 20/10/2025 17:52

Oh dear, poor Howse and Napple will just have to suck this up and accept that he's done nowt wrong. I'm sure that the fact free wibbling will continue, however.

I hope he wins against Sophia Brooks, the young man so terrified of his own shadow that he chooses to attend opposition events and go round sticking his camera in people's faces, questioning them aggressively.

I bet the CPS dropping the case has really made Christinapple's day.😂Must be tough being Christinapple, the Judge throwing out the ridiculous bail conditions so Chris couldn't keep reporting GL and now this. Sad, sad, very sad times.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 20/10/2025 19:50

At last there is an end to this, well done Graham Linehan, he paid a heavy price. 👏

Chris and Howse can get together and drown their sorrows while we play the world’s tiniest violin.
