Interesting development. The Welsh Government is still breaking the law and the Labour party's own rules which say women are a thing.

UPDATE
We note the Minister JaneHutt’s response to LauraJ4SWEast
that she has met with groups to discuss the Supreme Court judgment.

We can confirm WRN Wales HAVE recently spoken to her. It was a VERY short meeting. Nothing has changed. Read on 👇

🗣️ I pressed the Labour Welsh Government AGAIN on why, after over 3 months, they have not taken any action on the very important Supreme Court ruling on the definition of a women.

🥀I have requested that there is an urgent statement the first week back.

Last week we were contacted by her office and agreed to their request for a very short-notice remote meeting via zoom. It was hurriedly arranged.

The reason for this hurry was unclear.

Previous requests for meetings and discussion had fallen on deaf ears.

Two members of WRN Wales attended the meeting with the Minister, who was accompanied by five of her team.

The position of WelshGovernment was outlined - to ‘wait’ for the
EHRC

When pressed, it was clear there had been NO ACTION taken in response to the judgment at all.

When pressed, it was also clear that NO Government policies had been changed, including those allowing access to facilities in the basis of self ID. Their starting point on that was still ‘inclusion’.

And their policy position was still TWAW etc.

WRN Wales reps strongly outlined that:

➡️ The law is clear and must be complied with NOW
➡️ Welsh Govt risk legal action NOW
➡️ ‘Inclusion’ is unlawful with regard to single sex facilities. It discriminates against women and causes self-exclusion

We told the Minister of the threats, abuse, harassment and toxicity that courageous women have faced for speaking up. That those women have been vindicated. They were always right.

That WelshGovernment
should have supported those women and condemning the abuse toward them.

The meeting was essentially a repetition of WelshGovernment
‘waiting’ for the EHRC
.

We said this was kicking the can down the road. The law is clear, it’s always been clear and should be complied with. The Govt are currently in breach.

WRN Wales seized this opportunity in good faith to meet with the Minister.
Previous requests (over several years) had been ignored.

We used the short meeting to make our position clear. The WelshGovernment
position is unacceptable and will be challenged.

Seven months to the elections for the Senedd. Clock is ticking.

The WG REALLY do not want to listen and seem to think they can simply ignore the law too. It makes me despair. They are a bunch of self-congratulatory idiots who are too thick or too arrogant to see what "being kind" actually means.
Wales WRN are doing sterling work in keeping up the pressure.

The WAG's lack of interest in any of the concerns the women in Wales have is next level appalling, I've emailed Jane Hutt on a couple of occasions and all I've ever got back, from an office minion, is some meaningless crap that doesn't relate to the issues I raised in anyway whatsoever.
It's like talking to a brick wall, unless you an activist in the batshitery and then Jane Hutt is all ears. 🤬

KeepTalkingBeth · 08/10/2025 15:19

No party is more out of touch than Welsh Labour. I have voted for them in the past but I am disgusted at their inaction in so many issues. Every single thing they said and do seems designed to give Reform more voters.

I do wonder if people who are such true believers will ever accept they were wrong? It's so sad to see such misogyny in educated women.

Great article. Women's group in the Senedd

Senedd Members, however, will soon be able to get essential and long overdue clarity on this question, thanks to an event jointly organised by grassroots feminist groups Wales Women’s Rights Network and Merched Cymru.
Sponsored by Natasha Asghar MS, the event on October 15 brings together an expert panel comprising some of the key players in the case of For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers, which resulted in the Supreme Court ruling unanimously that ‘woman’, ‘man’ and ‘sex’ for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological sex.

Defining sex in Wales

Cathy Larkman What is a woman? This apparently simple question causes even the most seasoned politicians to visibly panic and flounder. From the Prime Minister attempting to calculate the percentage of women who have a penis to our own First Minister E...

Is it Jane Hutt that's met them, or the First Minister as is stated in the title?
