I've never posted on here before, though a long-time lurker and fellow-traveller.
I was at the Wigtown Book Festival last week and went to a session by the Scottish poet Jenny Lindsay about her book 'Hounded'. She had already been cancelled by the Edinburgh BF (and everyone else) so Wigtown was brave to give her a platform, though it was not without a considerable amount of unease, I'd heard.
Essentially JL, who was a well-regarded and literary-prizewinning poet was cancelled socially, professionally, and financially because years ago she wrote a tweet criticising the level of verbal violence expressed by trans activists. Since then it's been the usual story of threat, insults, shunning by ex friends and colleagues - we all know the sort of thing.
Anyway, there was hall full of people sitting there like nodding away in unison and people who'd never met exchanging words as if we had finally found our safe place. At the end of the talk she thanked Wigtown saying it was the only place that had given her a platform and a huge spontaneous cheer erupted.
So this is really just to say, please buy 'Hounded'. She's a brave and gallus besom.
