Transgenderism proves people will believe anything

IwantToRetire · 03/10/2025 21:51

While we sceptics may be constitutionally resistant to deranged popular dogma, we’re still adaptive. We may not believe just anything, but we can get used to anything.

So it’s vital to refresh our astonishment at the widespread adoption of a practice that 20 years ago would have been exclusively pursued by a few lost, misguided mental patients.

The fad for transgenderism is unbelievable and should stay that way. This movement gleefully defies biological reality. Sex is not in the mind but is written in our every cell.

From an article by Lionel Shriver at https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/transgenderism-proves-people-will-believe-anything/

"COVID lockdowns" and "climate catastrophism" shouldn't be in the same sentence as transgenderism. She's a bit OTT is Lionel.

That's one of the points of posting something like this.

That the MSM as much of SM create the context of gender critical opinions by who they give a voice to.

Not forgetting that leftish, liberal SM doesn't give GC voices a hearing at all.

That said, Monbiot was on Any Questions on Radio 4 earlier and, asked about the attack on the synagogue, identified that part of the cause of that attack (in a great big mess of stuff of his personal causes) was the hard time trans people were getting these days.

I used to respect George. Sad times.

Some people, on both Left and Right, do seem to think that opinions must come in combos. So on the Right, Covid (masks, vaccines, lockdowns), climate action (electrification, road safety, modal shift) and trans activism are one big governmental and international plot. On the Left, thinking that everything we were told about Covid by governments and WHO is definitely true, everything must be 💯 geared towards co2 reduction, Hamas is totally awesomely cool and TWAW, are all essential to being an acceptable human being. Those are the stripes you have to wear if you want to/need to belong to the tribes. The rest of us have no one to vote for and hide in the shadows of one tribe or another. Keeping schtum at dinner parties.

deadpan · 04/10/2025 07:53

It's as if we aren't complex sophisticated beings with the ability to think for ourselves. We're just reduced to teams. I think Farage has a lot to answer for with his divisive waffle and then Brexit made it worse, then COVID and underlying it all now are algorithms giving you more of what you look for "confirming" you must be right.

Nailed it. I don’t think for a second my young adult DS believes in trans ideology due to conversations we had in the past. However, due to the leftie circles he has moved in for the last ten years, thinks he has to because it goes hand in hand with the rest (also the fact he flatly refuses to discuss the issue with me convinces me he knows I’m right - but can’t get his head around it)

So much this! It's the Bundle of Good Beliefs for Good People thing, makes me despair 😩 that so many people just outsource [what passes for] their thinking.

JustStopItNorasaurus · 04/10/2025 09:00

Hang on, reverse a sec... George Monbiot said WHAT???!!!"

Personally I don't believe any person unless they are catastrophically mentally ill truly believes a man can become a woman just on their say so.(Or vice versa). It's just we are in such a surreal moment in time that people think they have to believe it.

How odd must it be to be so fundamentally incapable of acknowledging reality. As we can see in so many of the tribunals that have gone on even the so-called 'true believers' can't consistently maintain fictional pronouns.

It's available on Apple podcast so there is an auto-generated transcript if anyone wants to read what he said (was going to type it out, but it's too long and repetitive to be worthwhile. It's the first question).

In summary, he is blaming the attack on hate speech and social media.

Monbiot was firm that we need to stop hate speech and that would also mean going after the big US tech companies.

In a follow-up question he made clear that the free speech of the pro-Palestinian rallies/marches must not be impeded.

Put simply, Monbiot supports anything said by his side, which is on the Right Side of History, which should benefit from free speech protections, and supports the shutting down of things said by the opposing side because that tends to be hate speech, and it shouldn't benefit from free speech protections.

YelloDaisy · 04/10/2025 10:16

I listen to the rest is politics and they are criticising Trump, Netanyahu for outright lying.

However were happy to go along with Transwomen are women lies and gaslighting. As were other commentators,MPs, journos etc

Noooo, not Monbiot! He's a hero of mine.

I didn't hear the interview, but WTF has trans rights got to do with the Manchester attack?

nauticant · 04/10/2025 11:07

According to Monbiot the attack was caused by hate speech, and hate speech comes from opposition to any of the aspects of The Omnicause. This means that only certain types of hate speech are of concern. One of those is not giving in to what's being sought under the banner of "trans rights".

Trans was mentioned in passing in a list of things where Monbiot thinks that speech needs to be controlled to get the correct outcome, ie things he agrees with which therefore need to be protected free speech.

TBF you can't really blame Farage for the Left coming out with totally bonkers stuff. All he has to do is not agree with them.

I think the majority on Team Reform are going with any port in a storm. And at this point I can't really blame them tbh 🤷

finallygettingit · 04/10/2025 12:11

I wonder why Monbiot thinks that adherents of seperate aspects of the omnicause support all aspects?
I mean, specifically, does he think the man who carried out the attack on the synagogue, assuming he was motivated by pro-Palestine/anti-Israel beliefs, did he also support 'trans rights' and carbon reduction? and if not why not?

because I would bet a lot of money that he didn't

why is it left wing people lump all these disparate things together and require allegiance to all of them?

He's always had a simplistic way of framing things and pitting people against each other. Not surprising from someone who appeared on Russia Today many times and has stated his admiration for Putin. Russia's modus operandi has always been chaos, and slip in under the radar while that's happening.

I lost the will try to explain Monbiot's position.

I think it might have been that the attack was caused by hate speech which can be blamed on tech companies, and that there was absolutely no link between off-line expressions of opinion e.g. demonstrating against Israel, and anti-semitism.

It all seemed terribly clear cut in his mind.

It’s like dealing with hardcore football fans - support your team, wear the scarf, buy a mug to signal your allegiance at work, start a fight in the pub or vandalise the car of anyone who supports the other team. Ridiculous tribalism that achieves nothing.

I’m on the left, I hold strong GC views, and I’m willing listen to the arguments of people who have different opinions to me. This obviously makes me a horrible fascist right wing bigot in some circles, and a pathetic liberal leftie snowflake in others.

It’s the shadows for me!
