Pontypridd museum menopause sessions

Pontypridd museum doing menopause sessions this month which is great - however while there is a men only session the other session is 'open to all'. Because of course the women who deal with this sex-specific experience don't get a session for themselves.

See Eventbrite link for details https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/conversation-about-menopause-what-everyone-should-know-open-to-all-tickets-1587115327669 and

This seems wrong to me - genuinely bemused by this. Why not a woman - only one as well?

From the extra info, it seems the sessions are about providing support to the menopausal woman. So menopausal women are left out of the conversation entirely: it's for everyone who ISN'T menopausal.

On that basis, I'd guess the men-only session covers sexual matters. coughs lesbians?

And what is a Menopause Gift Bag? I seem to remember hearing about one with pointless items like a teabag & a tissue - I hope the Welsh version is better than that. A fan, a nice cardiagan, some decent perfume & a large cake, for instance.

Maybe the men only event is designed to address the sexist attitude a lot of men have about the menopause.

When I mention it to my brother (who's partner is just entering it) he just rolls his eyes and says 'of course it's always the menopause', like it's a made up excuse women have come up with, in order to annoy men.

If they don't experience it it don't exist. 😠

YANBU. I can see the sense of a men only session, but the tai chi and chat, whilst in practice will surely only be women, should be labelled as such.

Edited to add suggested slogan:
Ponty Museum: puts the MEN in MENopause

That’s really bizarre. If the events really are ‘conversations’, I’m sure many women wouldn’t be as comfortable sharing everything they might want to in a mixed sex group vs a women only one. My company did some sort of menopause awareness/support type of thing which was only mixed sex. I didn’t bother - if it had been women only I’d have joined the meeting in case (being post meno) I could helpfully share my experience but I absolutely didn’t want to do that in a mixed group.

A more sensible division would be sessions about how to support women through the menopause, awareness of issues etc open to all, and then sessions just for those who it directly affects ie women - those who will go through it, those who are going through it and also women who are out the other side who can share their experience.
