... & Magpie regularly drains the hot chocolate bowser.

If you understand that, or you're just cool with it, come on in & bagsie a chair by the fire.

FIL is being kept in over night, and then I suspect we will be looking for a care home for him. I’ve spoken to him, and he sounds weak but able to have a conversation with me.

We've been out today. Neighbours both sides (terraced house) are having building work done, involving drilling, lump hammers, brick cutting etc.

Out felt like a good place to be.

Definitely a day to be out, and very nice it looks too.

This may convince him it’s time. Would you look for somewhere near you? (or does your DH have siblings… sorry I’ve forgotten). We had to bring MiL up to a care home near here when she was in her 90s.

Oh bless him. What age is he @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

That's a pretty photo, Puffling - is it too outing for you if I ask where it is?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/09/2025 17:29

He’s 92, @Taztoy - he’s done really well up to now - he’s been pretty independent, and still enjoys doing his own shopping and cooking. But I think he is realising he can’t carry on in his own flat any more, which is sad.

Oh that is sad @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius 92 is such a good age though. I hope he does ok and if he does have to go into a care home it’s not too traumatic for him.

Your birthday sounds wonderful, Myrtle - what lovely gifts, the surprise gesture from your DB was probably as welcome as the actual giftSmile

Being the filling in a noise sandwich sounds awful, Fuzzy. Wherever you were today looks lovely, and there'll probably be lots more Grand Days Out until the building work is overConfused

I was at an exhibition today and in the kids' section they had one of those end-of-pier life-size pictures with a space for you to put your face in - I was soooo tempted because it was a pirate! I thought I could pretend to be one of Swash's shipmates and then I thought - wait a minute ya eejit ya - photo? anonymity?!

So Swash remains our only Bluestocking pirateSmile

Sending good thoughts to Woley x

Flowers Woley.

I'm pleased that you had a good birthday Myrtle.

It's mine this weekend. I was hoping to go to Edinburgh to see the Andy Goldsworthy exhibition but that's fallen through. So I'm going to hope the weather's nice and do something local or, failing that, stay in with films and a Chinese takeaway.

Thank you for all the birthday celebrations! They're amazing!

Book of Annie Lennox (my heroine) images.
Knitting bag that pulls the yarn through holes in the bag that keeps it all tidy.
Interchangeable needle system.
Flowers from the walrus AND my DM.
Mini hamper of wine, cheesy biscuits and herby nuts from one if my DBs (complete surprise, usually I'm lucky if I get a text and this one is not a big birthday, but maybe it's because I had the operation).
Voucher from DSD which has already bought a 2.5mm circular needle and stitch markers as well as sea salt dark chocolate.

Plus prosecco, white wine (DH prefers red) etc. No cake. I think he ruined it by being in it. But it's ok because it was a lovely day.

Here was a tribunal starting today (Leonardo Engineering letting TiM in the loos), but it was adjourned at lunch till tomorrow, hence quiet here.

Much love to Woley for her FIL. If it is the end, I hope it's painfree and comfortable and loved ones can be there.

That sounds like the perfect birthday, Myrtle. Do I take it that the purchase of a 2.5mm circular needle indicates the presence of socks in your future? 🤔😊

I definitely need a vat of coffee please, @MarieDeGournay. I’ve just had a phone call from my FIL and his carer, and he’s being taken into hospital - he has heart problems and has been declining quite rapidly over recent weeks and months, and today he got so breathless his carer called an ambulance. Dh is down in Lunnon Town doing Important Business Stuff, so I’ve had to ring him and let him know. I am worried.

So sorry to hear that, Woley. It's so worrying when beloved parents reach an advanced age while managing to live independently and then their health starts to fail, especially when we're not next-door. We went through this a few years ago with DH's wonderful mother who lived to 97, but needed a lot of help from her 3 sons.

Come in with a question. I wonder why JKR has not funded FWS

Shhhh. Don't tell Cake. It's a surprise for the weekend.

I need this. All the cake please.

and all the gin. And the chocolate.

there’s been another delay caused by the police.

I have ranted and now I have a headache.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 30/09/2025 19:37

The gerbils are just practising making some Andy Gerbilsworthy style art for Cake's birthday, @Taztoy , but they should be with you very soon...

I’m excited about the cake. I’m at the tiny galleon. Was supposed to be going home tonight but decided to stay an extra day. Had to go out for more supplies for the extra day and it was VERY slim pickings at the nearest little shop. Snack wise, I came away with a bag of midget gems and a large bag of Worcestershire sauce crisps. Very disappointing.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 30/09/2025 19:58

Ugh! I once lived somewhere with one village shop. Its grimy window dimly showed maroon velvet swags with a single, dusty Mars bar resting in the centre of them. I never dared to venture inside; I imagine it was like Royston Vasey, only worse. Luckily, I was only in that place for a few uni vacations, but I felt I was in the middle of nowhere & slowly going nuts. 😬

Why are the police so bloody useless and ineffectual. Argh.

that ^^ is lovely.

im going to be making my complaint but fuck it’s hard.

@Swashbuckled are they hard midget gems?

Magpiecomplex · 30/09/2025 20:00

I've just found a huge cricket (possibly grasshopper) in the kitchen. What on earth it was doing, I have no idea, but I turfed it outside to join its friends, who were being very noisy when I put the bins out.

lcakethereforeIam · 30/09/2025 20:05

Worcester sauce crisps are wonderful, but midget gems? Are they the ones where the blacks ones taste of black currant or the ones where they have a liquorice jump scare?

She does to a degree, but I think with the things FWS fight for its better that the money comes from lots and lots and lots of individual pissed off women.

I don't know what stage in the whole bloody awful process you are at, but I do remember everything taking so much longer than it should have done, and the police seemed to either take forever to chase something up, or just didn't bother until I rang and whinged at them.

I felt like I was having to spoon feed them at times.

With me the CPS decided originally that they were going to charge him. Then they decided that they weren't going to charge him.

I may have caused a bit of a stink at that point.

They did eventually charge him and he ended up getting 13 years. But it took 2 years from reporting it for it to get to court.

Oh @Boiledbeetle that’s awful.

im 10 months in (the attack was January).

They just hinted today that he might not be getting charged. I’m girding my loins to battle it. They didn’t say they might not, just hinted.

The victim support person contacted them today and couldn’t believe how rude the officer was. So it’s not just me.
