... & Magpie regularly drains the hot chocolate bowser.

If you understand that, or you're just cool with it, come on in & bagsie a chair by the fire.

Meant to add an blanket image earlier, but MN felt my image was too large so been messing about trying to make the file smaller.

A very unstealthy brag. This is on DD’s bed as she wallows ….

Beautiful blanket.

Swashbuckled · 02/10/2025 20:24

No, I really did mean bagel! I’d want the bacon crunchy. I’d have the Stilton sliced on top of the bacon (uncooked) so it melts slightly in the soft heat. Warmed bagels, slightly toasted.

Swashbuckled · 02/10/2025 20:26

That blanket is beautiful and looks delightfully heavy.

You'd have enjoyed my lunch then, I set the timer wrong and the bacon was very VERY crunchy!

Swashbuckled · 02/10/2025 20:27

Oh, I like my bacon so it can snap. (I’m thinking we’ve discussed bacon before…. 🤣)

Speaking of snacks, the image of that lone Mars bar in the shop window (in dusty drapes) has kept popping into my head. Was it Errol who posted about it?

I can’t understand why there was this single draped item in the window display. And was it changed, or was it years past its sell by date. And such a dull invitation to enter. It reminded me of a “marital aid” shop in town, near where we changed the bus for school. Just a draped sign in the window. We didn’t know what it sold until we were older. Anyway, I’m sure we’ll never know about the Mars bar shop..

That’s gorgeous

Boiledbeetle · 02/10/2025 20:36

I need to be horizontal.

Alas I've been beaten to the bed.

On the plus side in about 5 minutes when I kick her out of her spot the bit where the bottom of my back will be will have been nicely warmed!!

There used to be a clothes shop in Dublin in the 80s which was run by two 'elderly' i.e about my age🙃sisters who refused to decimalise, so all the prices were in £ s d.

The items displayed in the window were draped over t-shaped chrome stands of various heights, and had little handwritten cards under them saying things like ELEGANT FROCK WARM GLOVES and my fave: ACCEPTABLE GIFT.Smile

See - I don’t like it when I get into bed and it’s warm, @Boiledbeetle. I like nice, cool bedding, even in the depths of winter.

Swashbuckled · 02/10/2025 20:48

This one will also stay with me, Marie.

Lovely that they refused to decimalise, but what happened at the till or cash box? If a customer translates the displayed prices and pays in decimal coinage, do they get change in old money? Oh, these shop stories will keep me awake….

Evening all!

Just saw this and thought of you all! 🥰 (Many apologies not remotely caught up)

I do as well, but her little warm spot acts as a heat pad for a few minutes! The one tog duvet is still on the bed!

Mine just nicks the whole bed.

Betty, great song. Love it.

Stylish! 😍

I find the quickest way to reduce the size is to display the pic on the screen & screenshot it.

I like cool sheets too and find it only works with cotton.
But when it’s cold, and I’m being too frugal to put the heating on, I do enjoy adding a bit of extra heat. But it’s still cold and crisp on top, which seems important to me for some reason.

It was me, & I can PM you the address if you want to check it out! This was in the 1970s, but the Mars bar is probably still there. Hang on, I'll streetview it. Back later...

I remember in infants school they refused to change the maths books as they were "perfectly fine", so we would be going along quite nicely then suddenly get a pounds shillings and pence question. We were the first class that was entirely born after decilimilisation!

Swashbuckled · 02/10/2025 21:02

Dean, I meant to reply to you before but got distracted. Anyway, I’d go with vindicated; it’s easier to manage. Or just very weather smart.

Am not actually that old (I don’t think, anyway) but my first Saturday job at 12 (I looked 13) used an old till with the push down buttons that looked like this one. But you could buy 2oz of cola cubes and a quarter of sherbet lemons too.
