I don't really think that JK ought to have been fired for claiming that Charlie Kirk's assassin was on the MAGA right, however, I am disappointed but not surprised to see a bunch of female pop stars come out in favour of free speech over this, rather than all the suppression of free speech that's being going on elsewhere in Canada the last 10 years.

Not a peep about the McMaster fiasco, or over the Zucker fiasco, but they'll come out for that moron Jimmy Kimmel. Who probably should have been fired for not being very funny years ago along with Jon Stewart.

The right are mostly rubbish at cancelling, you'd almost think their hearts aren't in it. No, if you want a proper cancelling I'd pick the be kinders every time.

Btw if anyone can come up with a single example of Amy Hamm not treating a patient with dignity and respect I'd love to hear it. The panel that prejudged her couldn't.

I think the problem was that she brought the health care systems into disrepute effectively creating a public trust issue.

"It is unacceptable to use a professional nursing designation in conjunction with the public expression of discriminatory and derogatory statements targeting vulnerable and marginalized members of a community as such statements risks that members of that community will lose trust in the health care system and may be reluctant or unwilling to seek health care," the panel found.

So no patient was treated without dignity or respect.

They don't have to be. It's like a doctor using his doctor status as an activist against homosexuals, immigrants etc. The actions just have be reasonably considered to have eroded public trust in the health system for him to be guilty pf professional misconduct.

Nah, this isn't about lack of effort or belief from the cancellers. They just misunderstood how many people disagreed with them and how much those people's money talked. Btw the left doesn't deserve all the glory here, right wingers who care about free speech boycotted also. To their credit.

I agree with you on Amy Hamm.

lcakethereforeIam · 24/09/2025 12:24

That's not the same as you posted upthread. Amy Hamm doesn't campaign against TiM, she calls them men and says they're not the same as women. Common sense in other words. Tranada is so lost.

"The panel reviewed many social media posts, which ranged in content from Hamm questioning COVID-19 language guides for how health care professionals should refer to trans people, to her referring to trans people as "penis people" and suggesting their gender identification is a fetish.

"It is unacceptable to use a professional nursing designation in conjunction with the public expression of discriminatory and derogatory statements targeting vulnerable and marginalized members of a community as such statements risks that members of that community will lose trust in the health care system and may be reluctant or unwilling to seek health care," the panel found.

lcakethereforeIam · 24/09/2025 12:34

Yeah, and...?

Howseitgoin · 24/09/2025 12:39

Derogatory & discriminatory statements aren't exactly treating people with dignity & respect or 'common sense'.

lcakethereforeIam · 24/09/2025 12:42

People with ovaries, uterus havers, etc?

And many TIM have openly admitted it is a fetish.

Tranada where truth goes to have MAID.

False equivalence. Intention matters when using language & hers wasn't being respectful where it is when used in a medical context.

As far as fetishes goes, that some individuals indulge in them isn't necessarily representative of the group. This is classic broad brush smearing stuff.

lcakethereforeIam · 24/09/2025 13:01

Her intention was to draw attention to the disrespectful language used by medical professionals and others when talking about women. That is not a 'false equivalence' that is exactly equivalent.

As far as fetishes goes, it was the panel's broad brush that was doing the smearing by claiming that.

So no patient was treated without dignity or respect, no patient complained.

I thought @TempestTost comparing Kimmel and Hamm's situations was a bit of a long bow. But it really is the same issue, isn't it? The quesiton of professional standards, and when / whether or not its right that being the face of an institution means said institution can tie what you are permitted to say in public with your livelihood.

knitnerd90 · 26/09/2025 05:17

I don't think you can talk about "professional standards" for late night comedy. If Kimmel had defamed someone it would go through a civil suit. Brendan Carr is explicitly not allowed to do what he did by threatening a license. The two cases are simply not comparable.

You know Kimmel is:

A. A comedian &
B. didn't say anything factually incorrect right?
