GC politics dumbed down to a peronality, popularity contest

Just dont understand the point of this.

Maybe for those who "follow" this makes sense.

Someone sent me the link thinking I would be interested, but I was just baffled.

Or is this in line with usual online feminism.

I feel quite depressed.

Or is it a spoof? Confused

Have Your Say: A Poll on the Future of GC Activism

A new politics has emerged, which seems more concerned with policing allegiances than with enabling outcomes.

It's weird. Who is "we" in that text? What organisation is it? And, yes, despite some of the issues raised in the text seeming quite interesting, the actual poll is just ridiculous. And whoever put it together seems to have deluded themselves about the percentage of gc women who know/care what 'style' these two women have. (Why style? Why not beliefs, objectives, principles?)

thirdfiddle · 20/09/2025 18:07

If we're talking about style of activism, how about Helen Joyce's - research research research and then try to come to fair and logically sound conclusions. Or maybe Naomi Cunningham with her tightly knitted and surprisingly easy to read legal arguments. Or JKR being hilarious on twitter... Or ... Nah, I can't choose actually. Let's have lots of diverse voices.

FortheloveofPetethePlumber · 20/09/2025 18:18

People believing in reality and in women's rights and equalities. It's kind of like trying to form believers in gravity into gangs and sides.

What is this international obsession with trying to stuff everyone at all times into opposing teams who then fight while doing nothing of actual use?

Heggettypeg · 20/09/2025 18:29

Click on the underlined link in the article, called "Unherd Clock" which leads to an X account with an accusation that Julie Bindel and Kathleen Stock are "trying to silence working class women". I'm not on X and don't know whose account it is, but they seem to be connected to this poll.

WimbledonWhites · 20/09/2025 18:49

I think KJK did another video about Bindel and Stock etc recently which has brought this stuff out again.

Imnobody4 · 20/09/2025 18:54

Haven't come across this before but as PP says it's about the chasm between working class women and the 'GC elite'. There have been far too many virtue signalling declarations and signed letters recently from the latter in my opinion. I wish they'd just stop it.

yes, who on earth is this self-appointed ‘we’? And do they think a poll of theirs (which I think is on X which not that many feminists are on nowadays) carries any weight whatsoever?
seems like some sort of attempt to sow division to me.

Boston365 · 20/09/2025 19:42

Different types of activism speaks to different types of people so I don’t really understand why we have to choose.

Everyone does their bit in their own way to move the overton window so that GC views become acceptable in society, sex based rights can be protected and medical treatment is evidenced based.

ProfoundlyPeculiarAndWeird · 20/09/2025 19:55

There is so much malign and underhand right-wing activity online these days that I feel suspicious of everything. Perhaps unfairly in this case but who knows. I distrust the reference to 'working class girls', who, like working-class people in general, are regularly co-opted by right-wingers pursuing anti-immigrant sentiment dressed up as protecting women.

There seems increasingly to be a vile forced teaming on the right, between gender critical agendas and a patriarchal, racist notion of 'protecting our women'. So it wouldn't be at all surprising if there was a kind of entryism operating among GC entities.

Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but the far right is manoeuvring so aggressively now, on so many fronts that it is getting hard to trust anything that isn't wholly transparent..

OhPea · 20/09/2025 20:36

I’m getting very bored of all this in general. I follow all of them on social media and have interest on everyone’s input. Yes I prefer some people’s “style” to others, but as “being critical of gender identity ideology” isn’t enough to form a cohesive political platform - it’s more pressure group than a political party. There’s no membership, no overarching organisation and no bar to taking part. As such, this is another pointless attempt to fuel a feud that the rest of us are pointedly trying to ignore.

Pleasantsort · 20/09/2025 20:39

Can't be arsed with any of this sort of stuff and don't get involved . Both have their merits and have done alot for women in their own right. I am not on X or twitter, so I think that helps.

TeacakesFTW · 20/09/2025 21:09

Who is behind this poll please?

deadpan · 20/09/2025 21:21

This photo - hopefully it'll be approved - is from the twitter account that's responsible for the poll.
Whoever it is is bearing a grudge and under the assumption that working class women want England flags everywhere.

So is this a spoof account, not actually JB, Stock etc..

Either way it is really silly, but also damaging, because as said up thread some may be following the tit for tat internet feuding, but most women quite honestly are just to busy, or coming on FWR for IRL advice.

Could we ask them all to take a sabbatical, or whatever it is called, so that those of us not trying to big ourselves up, can just focus on discussing and sharing.

Still dont understand what this is all about.

OP posts:
IwantToRetire · 20/09/2025 22:51

Just to add to this, whilst saying I dont understand and why would anyone do it, I thought it must be related to JB seeming to have some differences with AGCL and their policing, or attempting to police women.

AGCL = Actual Gender Critical Left who apart from other claims to fame held a workshop at a past FiLia that led to a very long thread about the elephant in the room, about being deceived by the women FiLia had chosen to give a presentation.

A bit of due diligence easily demonstrates that this is a spoof account. A shame to highlight such a disingenuous account.

Maybe you could ask for your thread to be deleted or the title to more accurately reflect that you're promoting something purporting to be by Julie Bindel & Kathleen Stock but is in fact using their names to promote an agenda?

CrossPurposes · 20/09/2025 23:17

This is as pointless as that poll.

Thanks

I rarely use twitter etc., so have no grasp of what is real and what isn't.

And no I am not promoting anything.

As I made quite clear I didn't understand.

And part of me feels this thread should stay because it will let others know.

I think the real damage in twitter feminism.

Can someone who is on twitter ask the account mentioned what this is all about?

It doesn't help them if it turns out this is just silly school girl pranks.

OP posts:
dunBle · 21/09/2025 03:59

The slightest bit of scrolling through the account's posts would tell you that it's dedicated to throwing shit at Bindel and Stock, in the kind of personal snide way that people on one side of the socfems v ultras debate seem to object to when it's being aimed at their side, but not when it's coming from their side.
This post in particular is disgraceful

Bindel Stock Clock (@UnherdClock) on X

@ThePosieParker At some point we just have to face facts. There are some Gender Critical women who are unwilling to accept that widescale deportations are necessary. As a result they have decided to make women like you Kellie, and Aja, and Birdie,...

DrBlackbird · 21/09/2025 08:49

So not a personality contest and perhaps not even a spoof account as we’d think of one, but someone trying to shit stir?

Yep.
I suppose it’s as well to know about such things, and most of us don’t read as widely as the OP.

anyolddinosaur · 21/09/2025 09:30

Well no-one actually seems to be voting so I guess most people have realised that they are shit stirring.

Lovelyview · 21/09/2025 11:27

I have been on Twitter for 2 years and at first I was horrified at the sniping and falling out between gc people. It was like friends having a massive row. I ignore it now. Everyone has a different approach and a wide range of politics. Many seem remarkably fragile. It's ridiculous to set up a Twitter account to snipe at a few people who aren't doing exactly what you think they should be doing but that's Twitter. It could also be someone posing as gc to try and shit-stir. The first rule of Twitter is never believe anything you read on Twitter. Always verify elsewhere.

IwantToRetire · 22/09/2025 18:19

Personally I cant understand why any feminists post on twitter.

It has not out reach.

It is mainly used to shit stir.

And in fact despite thinking most of what JKR does is brilliant, her need to be on facebook, and getting involved in slanging matches doesn't really serve a purpose. It only reaches a wider audience if the MSM amplifies it, usually twisted.

Its sort of elitist to take time to comment on twitter with its miniscule numbers of users, but only use facebook which has so many more users (said to be dominated by older women) but just treat them as potential customers, but not important enough to interact with.

Just think of the impact she could have for many mothers of children who have to put up with them calling her a transphobe.

Really distorted sense of what is important.
