Transwomen - The Axis of Awesome

It's an old video, but I recently came across an Australian band called the Axis of Awesome and started watching their videos; they are hilarious, witty, very talented, and very clever.

I just learned that their lead singer transitioned to female and the band wrote a song about it, which is what I'd like to present here:

I'm curious what other MNetters think about this situation, song, and the comedy they employ around her transition.

Now I know that MN has a small, noisy contingent of people who have a rather... ahem... refreshing view when it comes to respecting and accepting other people, so if you are one such it might be better not to post in this thread; I'm interested in serious, thoughtful responses only. Thank you 😊

Accepting other people should never mean “accept everything they say at face value “ . You should get therapy if you believe that as you put yourself at great risk of abuse of all kinds

men can dress how they like, make themselves look however they want, call themselves what they want and that’s all fine

the only thing not fine is to pretend that they are women and expect others to believe that

that’s rude , insulting - it belittles everything women have had to put up with

and dangerous - especially if a medical takes them seriously

do you automatically believe a convicted murderer if they say “I am not a murderer” ? - give them an ax and head out into the woods with them? No you would not be so stupid .

Take people as they are, absolutely - let their actions speak for themselves, and suddenly you can’t for a moment believe a man becomes a woman

actions not words every time for me

Must admit the “axis of awesome “ tag does make me laugh - let’s emphasise the self absorbed show off arrogance

How that man chooses to dress is up to him, he isn't a woman however he chooses to identify and in the UK at least he shouldn't be entering women's single sex spaces and if he's a decent person at all he shouldn't be entering women's spaces anywhere in the world but I imagine like many men he is selfish and preoccupied only with that suits him.

I watched the clip and to me it also highlighted the intimidation element that is inherent in many of these interactions where male people are trying to convince women and girls that they have to accept them as being 'female people' now.

They did this at the start of their show. Fair enough, it was to introduce the new look for Jordan.

However, imagine being a male person who thought that telling any woman who felt uncomfortable with Jordan accessing female single sex spaces if he wanted to that they were hateful and should leave. Not only creating a chilling effect for future where a woman in the audience might have wanted to complain about a male person being in a female single sex space. But also, who the fuck is going to get up after hearing that to leave the audience? What kind of reaction would any woman expect after it being said that any woman would be hateful and bigoted.

I think that anyone who holds this part of the act up as being positive is someone who also thinks that the group of people who have campaigned and who advocate for male people being included in single sex spaces for female people are righteous, tolerant and inclusive.

Yet... the intimidation factor in this part of the act is stark when you understand what you are watching.

Refreshing view indeed
Thank goodness for refreshing views
PS I think their choice of 'elephant in the room' seems cruel
PPS ' mimsy' needs a comeback - love Jabberwocky

PS I think their choice of ‘elephant in the room’ seems cruel

maybe we’re getting an insight into why they broke up….

Me too. Not entirely untypical of this type of man, is it?

Mimsy is a great word that doesn't get used enough.

Never fails to make me think of:

”All mimsy were the borogoves”
