It's an old video, but I recently came across an Australian band called the Axis of Awesome and started watching their videos; they are hilarious, witty, very talented, and very clever.

I just learned that their lead singer transitioned to female and the band wrote a song about it, which is what I'd like to present here:

I'm curious what other MNetters think about this situation, song, and the comedy they employ around her transition.

Now I know that MN has a small, noisy contingent of people who have a rather... ahem... refreshing view when it comes to respecting and accepting other people, so if you are one such it might be better not to post in this thread; I'm interested in serious, thoughtful responses only. Thank you 😊

No, I can't take the credit for it. A friend shared it with me as they thought I would like it (I do).

I thought it was quite entertaining (in parts) and a creative way to address the fact that the lead singer now identifies as a woman.

Although it did lose its way a bit when asking whether the bald guy is going to cut his dick off because that's nothing to do with hair. I guess they ran out of metaphors.

I don't agree with any of their sentiments and I'm very firmly GC, but I can appreciate a creative approach to making the announcement. I wouldn't be in the audience laughing along because the erosion of women's rights isn't something that I find funny.

As an aside, the lead singer looks like Meatloaf in a dress and lipstick.

What 'science' tells you that men can become women?

What kind of 'social decency' results in women being incarcerated with men and sexually abused by them in prison?

What rights are transwomen missing?

It's none of their "fucking business" why we want to keep our spaces single sex.
Part of the song is humourous, but when they start banging on about "which toilet do you use" because Lee is bald it slips into a piss take.
The singer hasn't transitioned "to female" because he can't. He can try to present to himself as a woman but he hasn't changed sex. It's just another load of probably left leaning blokes moaning.

Yes the bald man will use the same toilets as before because presentation has nothing to do with the way that toilets are separated on the grounds of sex.

It is a funny song and obviously they're not suggesting that becoming bald and identifying as a woman are the same but it's interesting to think about the difference between these two things as well as analogies you can draw.

I mean the most obvious one is that we only have the other man's word for him becoming a woman. It is based on a categorisation system that works by declaration alone. Would the song work in the same way if the bald man were not in fact bald but simply declaring he was?

It would be lovely if you came back to discuss these things.

Well a man can start off having hair and go bald but he can't start off as a man and 'go' woman so it's a pretty pointless analogy.

Wearing a dress and lippy doesn't make a man a woman, taking hormones doesn't make a man a woman, calling Steve Susan doesn't make him a woman. No human has ever started as one sex and become the other sex it just isn't possible. Lots of people on the other hand have had hair then lost it so baldness is a thing but changing sex isn't.

That is my serious, thoughtful response.
