I would have thought Starmer was relieved when that space opened up on the ministerial Rubik’s cube so he could shuffle lammy off the world stage

Ooooh, I can break out this username again!
I am particularly excited because I have had some successes and some failures this year, on the growth front.
Me and DH are novice gardeners and we have tried so hard to get it all right. But we failed spectacularly with a Pawlonia Tomentosa in spring. So we tried again with a tree Ceonothus. Both seem to have died. Maybe it's the location. I don't know. I have had some success with Ivy Leafed Toadflax, which I have wanted for years, to spread throughout our dry stone walls - fingers crossed for me please!!! But now, with this glorious news, we have ordered - from Farmer Gracy, no less - a male human cervix growing kit - for DH - to try, all on his own. Any supportive messages throughout this period will be gratefully received.
Hithankcueee.

Best of luck to DH, and please keep us updated on his cervix project. I’ve often wanted to grow a penis, for easy peeing when out in the woods; I’ve squatted in scratchy grass too often, not to mention losing my balance and falling into a nettle patch.

But I’ll wait to hear how he gets on before buying a kit.

Someone linked the song on an SP thread and I really wanted an FWR name (I had GlinnerOfHope but people mistook me for Glinner).

I’m sorry I misspelled.

I can pee standing up in the woods. But that doesn't make me a man, not even a man with a grow-your-own. It makes me a woman with a SheWee.

Labour Party: "This news means the Party will now need to hold a Deputy Leadership Election."

So is Lammy's appointment interim?

They're two different positions:

Deputy Prime Minister - non-job that the PM appoints, and can remove someone from as they wish

Deputy Leader of the Labour party - non-job that the Party votes for, and cannot be removed by the PM. Often a thorn in the PM's side (see Tom Watson and Jeremy Corbyn, Rayner and Starmer)

Lammy has been given Deputy PM as a consolation prize for being demoted from the Home Office. I doubt he can do much damage as Justice Secretary.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 06/09/2025 09:36

So presumably Lammy was not considered a success? safe pair of hands ? as Foreign Sec? I was surprised when Starmer appointed such an emotionally incontinent man (judging by his many student politics comments) to such an important role but assumed he had hidden talents that I'd not appreciated?

He wasn't a particularly good Foreign secretary, and Cooper failed to do anything about the small boats/immigration, so she had to move. And she is a bigger Labour beast than Lammy, and if Starmer sacks Reeves as Chancellor he'll look an even bigger fool/weakling than over Rayner, so Lammy got the shove.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/09/2025 10:06

Cooper is awful, I’ve disliked her since pre Corbyn times, and her stupid husband. Happy with that change.

eta her replacement as Home Secretary

SionnachRuadh · 06/09/2025 10:58

I don't think Lammy was a disaster as foreign sec, though he was good for some memes.

The idea of Lammy as our top diplomat seems funny on the surface, but on a personal level he's naturally easygoing and makes friends easily. The weird odd-couple friendship he's struck up with Vance is a case in point. Those bits of the job where doing your homework was less important, and relationship building more important, he was quite good at.

I suspect with Cooper it will be the opposite.

Shabana as home sec is a no-brainer. She's tough and smart, she's the closest thing Labour have to a law and order and immigration hardliner, and being an ethnic minority woman makes her somewhat fireproof.

Dragonasaurus · 06/09/2025 11:18

New username - reporting for duty. Although it does look like Lammy has been shifted back and Mahmoud brought into a key role, so proportion of senior ministers understanding that TWA not, in fact W is improving

Also reporting for duty <twirls, knocking over bookcase with tail>

I will never forgive Lammy for mocking women fighting for what already are their rights in law. He was also involved in the passing of the GRA, "nothing to see here ladies". How's that worked out for the country Lammy?

🦕 “Respect, Rights, and Reclamation” — Interpretive Dance Routine

🎭 Scene One: The Jurassic Rights Roundabout

  • Setting: A circular stage, dimly lit, with a spotlight on a central figure resembling David Lammy—suited, static, blinking in confusion.
  • Enter the Dinosaurs: Women in inflatable dinosaur costumes stomp rhythmically around him. Their movements are exaggerated—tail swishes, clawed hands clutching large cardboard pieces labeled “RIGHTS” in bold, glittery lettering.
  • Scuttlers and Brandishers:
  • Some dancers scuttle low to the ground, gathering “rights” cards in frantic, protective motions, clutching them to their chests like sacred relics.
  • Others rise tall, brandishing their cards in front of Lammy with sharp, angular gestures—like protest placards in motion.
  • Music: A mix of tribal drums and distorted parliamentary soundbites, echoing phrases like “hoarding dinosaurs” and “men can grow cervixes”.

🌱 Scene Two: The Cervix Garden Struggle

  • Enter the Pots: Women in lab coats and gardening gloves carry terracotta pots labeled “CERVIX”, each containing a surreal, fleshy-looking bloom—part anatomical, part botanical.
  • Men in Baby Doll Dresses: A chorus of male dancers in matching pastel dresses attempt to wrestle the pots away. Their movements are clumsy, exaggerated, almost slapstick—arms flailing, feet tangling.
  • Tension Builds: The women resist with graceful, grounded choreography—spins, lunges, and protective cradling of the pots. The men’s attempts grow increasingly absurd, culminating in one dancer trying to “plant” a cervix in his own pot, which promptly wilts.

💜 Scene Three: The Reveal and Reclamation

  • Costume Shedding: The dinosaur dancers unzip and step out of their inflatable suits. Beneath, they wear elegant, everyday clothing in suffragette colours—green, white, and purple.
  • Formation Shift: They form a V-shape around Lammy, who now looks visibly smaller, almost shrinking under the weight of their unified presence.
  • Final Gesture:
  • Each woman holds a “rights” card aloft.
  • One dancer steps forward, places her card gently at Lammy’s feet, and says (spoken word): “We are not hoarding. We are holding. We are not extinct. We are alive.”
  • Another adds: “And no matter how hard you try, you cannot grow what you do not have.”

🎬 Conclusion: Lights Fade, Message Lingers

  • The music softens into a choral hum

—echoes of “Respect. Rights. Reality.”

  • The dancers exit slowly, leaving Lammy alone on stage, surrounded by rights cards and wilted cervix pots.
  • A final projection appears behind him:

“We aren’t dinosaurs. We are women. And we’re not going anywhere.”

The rehearsals are going well.

Edited

Thank you Boiled! Scene 2 made me feel a bit queasy though. I’m not good with the idea of internal body parts “in the wild”!

i like the idea that actually DPM is a demotion for Lammy, and that Mahmoud is more sensible about the SC decision. Fingers crossed Labour don’t reverse on this…
