I‘m starting to get excited.
Are there plans for a MN meetup?

Yes. I know I need to leave around 3pm on Sunday to get home to Outer Ruralia and be ready for work on Monday morning. I doubt I’m the only one who’ll be leaving then. So I suspect they’ve tried to schedule mostly Saturday and Friday afternoon/evening.

Hermiaxx · 18/09/2025 11:53

I’ve got the app downloaded and am so looking forward to FiLiA this year (I actually bought my ticket in December 2023 - so it’s been a long time coming!).

Hope to see you all there too!

Talkinpeace · 26/09/2025 16:20

The vast bulk of Filia attendees (I include myself in that list)
are going to chat and laugh and learn a bit.

Yes, Filia decide who speaks at their conference.
Yes, others may not agree with their choices.
Fine, set up your own one.

The Saturday disco is a blast.
I have completely filled my days with sessions to attend
and the lunchtime mingles are worth every moment.

ParmaVioletTea · 26/09/2025 23:29

Agreed @Talkinpeace i think the FILIA organisers have done an amazing job and have scheduled a very wide range of speakers and topics. MN feminism is a small part of a very broad movement that’s been going for 60 years at least (thinking back to the Women’s Liberation conferences of the 60s and 70s).

fabricstash · 29/09/2025 22:09

Starting to get excited about next week!

Talkinpeace · 30/09/2025 14:08

I am wondering if we get a playlist choice this year (as we did in Cardiff) for the Saturday night !

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/09/2025 14:40

drop your tunes here @Talkinpeace & I can pass them on

Talkinpeace · 30/09/2025 14:48

Aretha Franklin, Respect
Nina Simone, I'm feeling good

I'll be on the cider ;-)

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/09/2025 14:49

NOW I'm feeling excited !

ThisIsMyGCname · 01/10/2025 10:14

I’ve got a Saturday day ticket, but I’ve not bought a train ticket. I’m a bit worried it’ll be frightening to get from the station to the the venue. I’m not usually a scarlet cat but I’m feeling really vulnerable atm.

ParmaVioletTea · 01/10/2025 10:24

If you go on the app that FILIA is using for scheduling, you’ll see there’s a chat function. You could arrange to walk with a group of other women travelling and walk with them from the station to the venue.

RobinEllacotStrike · 01/10/2025 11:28

@ThisIsMyGCname I understand feeling like that & I imagine many women will be feeling a bit apprehensive.

@ParmaVioletTea 's suggestion is a good one & there will likely be women on your train coming to FiLiA too.

You will be absolutely fine and when you see the building and all the women there you will be uplifted & feel much better. Women belong in Brighton!

ThisIsMyGCname · 01/10/2025 11:32

Oh, I didn’t see the chat function. Thank you. I might just do that. And you’re right, I bet there’s someone going who’s on my train. I saw one of “us” in the wild a few weeks ago at a completely unrelated event. I can’t tell you how I knew because that would blow her cover but we did a secret handshake.

Talkinpeace · 01/10/2025 13:29

@ThisIsMyGCname
Definitely ask around to see who else is likely to be on your train.
There are LOTS of us rocking up so there will be terven all over

PiningForTheMoon · 01/10/2025 13:56

It's my first Filia. Feeling a tad nervous in case of trouble but overall I'm excited. More so since reading how brilliant it'll be to be in the company of so many women. I shall investigate the app for chat and meetups.

sistersheal · 01/10/2025 15:21

We will be there! We're a group of Brighton women that have set up sisters heal following the Sarah Summers legal case.

We will also be part of the "I am Sarah" talk on Sunday about the Supreme Court judgment.

We have a stall at FiLiA and would love for Mumsnetters to stop by and say hello.

Brilliant stuff!

Caoilinm · 02/10/2025 09:44

Why in Brighton? Erm, because there are 125,000 women in Brighton! Because in 1996 there was an important Feninist conference. Because sex-realism/gender critical beliefs are worthy of respect in a democratic society, and because we will not be bullied by nasty misogynistic, drluded trans rights activists.

Talkinpeace · 02/10/2025 13:29

@RobinEllacotStrike
I realised I missed of a song that NEEDS to be played on the Saturday night

very good @Talkinpeace - timely!

Yawhat · 02/10/2025 17:09

Enjoy! I went to the Glasgow one because it's local. Not normally my kind of thing but found it refreshing to be in the presence of so many women. Hope you all have a great time.

CornflakeGirlsClub · 03/10/2025 13:36

I was about to start a thread and then found you all. Yay! 🎉

I’ve got a Sat & Sun ticket. My first time (bought a ticket last year but then got the flu…boo).

Going down from London on the Friday night and staying in a friends flat while they’re away, but coming to the conference alone. Haven’t got party tickets as even though I’m fairly brave, I don’t want to be a billy no mates wall flower (and I stopped drinking a few years ago, so no Dutch courage for me!)

I’m excited! My DH and kids keep talking about mum being hyped for her ‘weekend feminist party’ 😀

I went to a women’s liberation in education conference in 2023/4 (can’t recall) and it was bloody brilliant to be among so many interesting, clever women from all walks of life. I went alone and was ‘adopted’ for the day by a lesbian couple in their seventies who thought I looked lonely and fed me biscuits while we raged at each other about gender ideology in schools and tutted at the (small( group of (really quite silly) young men outside chanting ‘I would rather be a Nazi than a terf’.

I’m a tall lass with a good death stare. I’ll happily walk to the venue with anyone feeling nervous. 🌷

RobinEllacotStrike · 03/10/2025 14:01

I'm staying in a hotel close to the venue & I have a 2m telescopic flagpole & a big suffragette flag I'm going to fly proudly as I walk to the venue!!

What great luck having the use of your friends flat @CornflakeGirlsClub

I think there are a few party tickets left if you are feeling brave - according to the ap there is a band and all so its not too late to change your mind re the party. I had a party ticket on my first FiLiA (in London) and I didn't go cause I was "alone" so I get it. But the party really is a great release of tensions, emotions & coming together with women to shake it all out.

RobinEllacotStrike · 03/10/2025 14:05

Those who are alone perhaps start a "Pre party meet up" thread on the Cvent ap & meet other women who are alone but going to the party.

There is the Femicide Rally outside before the party, and then everyone comes back for the party - so even if you met at 7pm for a drink & then you could go to party together? I would have enjoyed that kind of meetup on my first FiLiA.
