I‘m starting to get excited.
Are there plans for a MN meetup?

This filia is going to be 3000+ attendees

ParmaVioletTea · 26/08/2025 13:41

Wow @RobinEllacotStrike it's going to be amazing.

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 26/08/2025 13:58

Me!!! With a fellow TERFY friend. Now she’ll know my username here 😜 We’re very excited about attending for the first time!

Brighton is a genius location: the city that’s so open minded its brain has fallen out, rolled to the end of the pier and plopped into the sea (deliberate choice of verb there).

RobinEllacotStrike · 29/08/2025 18:58

1900 tickets sold!

its going to be massive.

there is a free crèche for attendees but spaces are limited. If you are wanting to use the crèche do book your ticket & crèche spot asap.

The Children of Transitioners founder, Emma, is speaking, so hope some of you will go along to support her..Some of the Cots Group are meeting soon to contribute ! Really sad @Tinsel won't be there.

Emma is brilliant & well worth listening to. They’ve really missed a trick by not including Tinsel though.

Yes Emma, Vaishnavi and Abigail will be great. I hope the panel is a success even though I’m devastated that FILIA have excluded me from it.

They don't always get everything right but I've been to the last four FiLiA Conferences and have been absolutely blown away. Women from all over the world talking about human rights, surrogacy, family courts, prostitution, women in war, the patriarchy, porn, VAWG, trans ideology, trade unions, women's history, literature, music, theatre & art, prisons, women's health, women and the law, political activism, migrant women, refugees ... plus the all-women disco and the myriad of informal conversations and connections. And essentially organised by volunteers. It's really something.

And for those coming alone, once signed up there will be the opportunity to talk to other attendees and arrange to travel together to the venue etc, ad to sort out the MN meet-up.

It's truly unmissable.

No. I’ve been in correspondence with them about a session on trans widows and children of transitioners for several years, and was turned down for a different reason each time. This year they’ve arranged one without me, and the first thing I knew was when it was announced.

Sorry to hear that, Tinsel. You've been talking about transwidows for years, long before most people were aware of the impact that transitioning has on the wives and children of the men who decide to do it.

No doubt they'll platform someone they can manipulate - they'll need to control the narrative, of course. Wouldn't want to offend the men in dresses, would they?

I was going to attend a few years back, until they no-platformed another woman for wrongthink. Sod them.

I’ve been several times, and enjoyed it.

I can only conclude I’ve been excluded either because I’ve spoken openly about being given different reasons each time for them turning me down in the past, or because I’ve criticised left wing feminists for platforming men like our exes.

I'd heard about this, Tinsel, and was concerned. They've also no-platformed Sheila Jeffreys. I don't know what their thinking is but I'm reminded of this thread from 2022:

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4662757-womens-place-uk-filia-event-the-elephant-ignored-yet-again?page=11

I'll be going because I've already paid for my ticket and accommodation, but if I hadn't I think I would have given it a miss.

Hermiaxx · 31/08/2025 14:12

@ArealAdultHumanFemale thank you and I do remember the FiLiA app from Cardiff - and will make sure I check it carefully!

I really enjoyed Cardiff and was sorry to miss Glasgow! Can’t wait for Brighton!

We may not all agree on everything but I still like hearing the opinion and experiences of others - and surely we all want our sex based rights?

ArealAdultHumanFemale · 31/08/2025 14:55

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 25/08/2025 10:01

Don’t know why. But apparently Sheila Jeffreys can’t do a talk about her book and nor can Fiona Mcanena (spelling??). For some reason. Not sure what.

Because Terf Island has a chapter about KJK, apparently.

EmpressaurusKitty · 31/08/2025 15:02

Fiona’s in a different FiLiA session on Sunday though.

She was going to be part of the separate book launch event but now isn’t.

peachescariad · 31/08/2025 15:30

Me! I’m going on my own too so would love a MN meet up

Ah. I prefer Sex Matters' approach — that fighting for women's rights involves women across the political spectrum.

Not just that but a chapter interviewing KJK & recounting events from her point of view.

The whole book is an excellent read, by the way.

We all know this

Who‘s coming to FiLIA?
fabricstash · 31/08/2025 19:55

Love glosswitch - always hits the nail on the head! Is she speaking at Filia?

IwantToRetire · 31/08/2025 20:44

I think what is depressing is so many women willing to passively accept what is an events organising group who is or is not politically acceptable.

This year they have no platformed a well known lesbian feminist activist, because years ago she attended the meeting that was allegedly funded by the Heritage Foundation.

This is exactly the poisonous vindictive attitude that made WPUK eventually so pointless.

You may enjoy being in a room with a lot of other women, but if the price for doing that is being spineless, not sure what the point is.

Would any of you even bother to say to FiLia, seriously we are grown ups, you dont get to say who is or is not the right sort of feminist. You aren't a political party, and many women doubt you are feminist.

I wont post it here but on the other thread about FiLia no platforming you can see some of the post from Julia Beck who is the woman who has been no platformed.

And having now seen about TinselAngel I am shocked that FWR as whole has not risen up and sent FiLia an absolute condemnation of their behaviour.

This is of course typical of left wing cooption of women's autonomous organising.

For heaven's sake, if you want to fritter you money away that's of course your right.

But if in doing that you are colluding with silencing women, not sure I would be able to enjoy myself.

How truely depressing.

whatwouldafeministdo · 31/08/2025 21:15

Excluding Tinsel from the transwidows discussion not only looks spiteful and a glaring omission it's stupid and unfair on those attending. She knows more about the history of how difficult it's been to get transwidows a voice than anyone and supported so many other transwidows. Everyone there could only benefit in hearing from her. All those currently attending could attend too - there's room for them all and the session would be even better if they ALL were there.

Tinsel is a known voice who is very respected and excluding her just seems really petty and mean. Honestly, talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

I'm guessing it's the speaking up about platforming men with lady feelings that did it, but surely that's what someone advocating for transwidows should do? What's the impact on the wives / ex-wives and family of those men if they're given a platform to speak by so-called feminists?

fabricstash · 31/08/2025 21:32

I get there are disagreements and I cannot say I know all the ins and outs (I have a very busy life - am not a hive mind) but I think Filia has a place with global voices and I am genuinely looking forward to going. In the spirit of the original OP I look forward to meeting some of you there

TinselAngel · 31/08/2025 21:40

In the spirit of full disclosure, I did email FILIA to ask whether my exclusion was deliberate or accidental, but they said they would only discuss it with me if I agreed to a Zoom call. I wasn’t comfortable with that as I was so upset and I spent years being told by my ex and others that I’ve handled things wrong so I’m not volunteering for some kind of struggle session that might be more of the same. I asked them to discuss it by email but they refused.

Thanks @IwantToRetire, I’m also struck by how passive women seem to be about others being excluded.

fabricstash · 31/08/2025 22:11

@TinselAngeli don’t really understand stand why you are excluded but i cannot see from other thread KJK even wanted to speak at Filia. If that is right then it’s disingenuous for some to say she is excluded. I am genuinely interested in hearing about issues outside the gender debate. This does not mean it is not important but there are so many other things. Everyone fights for women’s rights in their own way
