Language doesn't 'yield reality', you dafty.

I would love to see Judith Butler in a room of British TERFs.

"What the fuck are you on about Judith?"

I wasn't agreeing I just thought it stood by herself.

She has something about claiming we commit "psychic violence" on transwomen by pointing out some of them are rapists.

EsmeWeatherwaxHatpin · 23/08/2025 18:07

Imagine if you were Jewish and someone tells you that you are not

But no one is saying they aren’t trans Judith. We’re saying they’re not women. We accept their faith in gender, just not their assertion that their faith changes material reality. For everyone. Including non believers.

ArabellaScott · 23/08/2025 18:18

Not you, BeLemon, obv!

This is an instructive argument. Someone is Jewish, very devout (or pick another religion) and male. All I have to do is know they are Jewish and respect their rights. But say that person steps onto a plane and says that because they are devout, and can’t sit next to a woman, I have to give up my seat. And that I’m a hateful bigot if I don’t. Well, no. You can buy two seats, you can buy first class, you can choose not to fly.

I don’t have to give up my rights for your beliefs. As with so many rights-based arguments your right to wave your arms around ends where my nose begins.

LibertyKnickers · 23/08/2025 19:16

Given what Gretchen Felker-Martin wrote about JKR in his "novel" about JKR (archive.ph/tNumK) and has said <a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20230219145419/nypost.com/2023/02/18/gretchen-felker-martin-tweets-that-she-wants-to-slit-j-k-rowlings-throat/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">elsewhere too, I am surprised they let him on Bluesky in the first place.

As for wishing ill, well I am sure we'd be guilty of that for someone, but I doubt we'd publish it online, and in any case what was said about JKR is so unhinged and detached from reality that it'd be comical were TRAs not so inclined to violence against all women for saying 'No'.

Edited as I kept messing up the links.

Trans author Gretchen Felker-Martin said she wants to slit J.K. Rowling’s throat in since-deleted tweet

Gretchen Felker-Martin named several writers she said were transphobic — including J.K. Rowling — writing, “If they all had one throat, man” in a since-deleted tweet.

https://web.archive.org/web/20230219145419/https://nypost.com/2023/02/18/gretchen-felker-martin-tweets-that-she-wants-to-slit-j-k-rowlings-throat/

LibertyKnickers · 23/08/2025 19:23

And in fact I still messed up the links...

Enough4me · 23/08/2025 19:30

I believe that some people believe in gender and other beliefs even though I know it's completely made up. Like unicorns.
If only more people thought they were unicorns they could run around being happy instead of threatening people.
Of course if men want to wear dresses but use males spaces that's great too.
Edited to add 'some'

If anyone was wondering, what does Judith Butler think? (Probably not but I've read and highlighted bits). Here we are...

"Of course, Stock and J. K. Rowling both are rightly appalled by the online bullying they have received, and I will not condone that kind of behavior, no matter who does it. We surely need a better conversation. But one reason that better conversation is difficult to have is that TERFs are denying the existence of people who have had quite a hard time gaining social recognition, legal protection from discrimination, and adequate and affirming health care. Neither Stock nor Rowling would agree that they are denying anyone’s existence, but that is because they believe they possess the only language that yields reality, and anyone who disagrees is deluded. In this way, they once again concur with right-wing discourse on trans life. Imagine if you were Jewish and someone tells you that you are not.".Judith Butler - "Who's afraid of gender?".

Always with the "but"....

ShallWeDance · 24/08/2025 13:03

Blimey, I have just registered on BlueSky and looked at the posts. What a cesspit.

And the comments on that Advocate article on bluesky provide handy examples of just how kind and full of love trans activists are:

'I don't wish her ill, I worse her far, far worse than that. Absolutely disgusting and unredeemable.'

'Still wish absolute ill on JKR'

'I wish I'll upon JK Rowling. I wish she experiences all the pain she has inflicted upon trans folks.'

'May black mold consume her amen'

'J. K. Rowling is a world class cunt.'

'Fuck JK Rowling for being a disgusting terf. '

'may she rot and perish in whatever slum can match the yawning, barren void of her rotting, charred heart'

'I wish ill on that mouldy old crone.'

'Personally I think it would be very unfortunate for JK Rowling to catch treatment resistant gonorrhoea.'

'I hope Rowling keeps herself safe.'

'Remember kids, its always morally correct to take a shit in front of her home when in Edinburgh, Scotland'

'hey bluesky, i don't just mildly criticise jk rowling, i want this piece of shit beaten up'

archive.ph/tYq6d

And this isn’t a men’s rights movement for mentally ill men apparently.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 24/08/2025 17:05

man alive. who is taken in by judith butler's bullshit? anyone who can't spot that she's making it up as she goes along shouldn't be allowed out by themselves

DabOfPistachio · 01/02/2026 21:27

Looking at the documents Epstein's publicist emailed someone looking for Harry Potter tickets and the 'invitation' is the ticket.
Quite the reach to go from that to JK Rowling was somehow involved with him personally. Can't roll my eyes hard enough.

DabOfPistachio · 01/02/2026 21:32

I see the second bit of 'damning' evidence is that someone emailed him asking if he knew how to get in touch with her and he didn't reply.
I mean FFS. Really? That's damning?

LeftieRightsHoarder · 02/02/2026 07:36

Jessie Earl made a post on Bluesky that contained the phrase, “I also wish ill on J.K. Rowling.” She was quote-posting from author Gretchen Felker-Martin, who had been temporarily suspended for writing, “I hope someone splits her skull,” referring to the controversial author.

Free speech is essential, but surely it’s illegal to call for someone to be killed? What a cesspit the trans world is.

My understanding is that the original skull-related post was deleted and the user sanctioned - but clever alecs are now saying 'I too wish ill on JKR' which is in support of the skull post, but doesn't literally [as in 'literally'😏] threaten violence, just 'ill', and therefore they are not breaking the rules.

I'd call it jesuitical, but that would be unfair to Jesuits.

Feel free to correct me if I've got it wrong, that's just my understanding of what happened to the original violent post.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 23/08/2025 09:23

And to be clear -- I wish upon JK Rowling everything she wishes upon trans people

this bit was sweet….but only because they have no idea what JKR actually thinks

I picked up on that too, Rufus -
I reckon that means wishing human rights and freedom from discrimination upon JKR, because that's what she wishes upon trans people!

Thelnebriati · 02/02/2026 11:34

The by-line on that article is hilarious. Women want 'safe spaces' to be free from male violence and the male gaze.
Did they forget the Online Safety Act exists? Bluesky don't have a choice. They aren't being harassed, just held to the same standard as everyone else.

Honestly, I doubt that they do checks. It'd be a full time job looking into everyone who asks for tickets to Harry Potter events.
Even less likely that JKR herself spends time background checking who's going. If there genuinely were any real connection between them, in the millions of documents released, there'd be a lot more correspondence than someone connected to him once asked for Potter tickets from someone connected to her.

Judith Butler is a very funny bunny. Her family background is Reform Jewish so you'd think she'd be aware that "being Jewish" is contested. You can "be Jewish" according to Reform and Liberal rules but not according to Orthodox.

But just like gender versus sex, her deeply ingrained belief system seems to be that you're Jewish if you think you are and never mind anyone else thinks. Including the Rabbi.

She's very Christian in a way. For her it's about inner faith not observance.

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 02/02/2026 13:43

It's interesting how TRAs always have to go to extremes, I think.

They can't just say they strongly disagree with JKR's opinion, they have to publicly wish a violent death on her.

Why is it not enough to argue against what she said? (Probably because they have no reasonable arguments to offer.)

They just have to keep pushing further and further to prove how fanatically pro-trans they are, and anyone who doesn't keep pushing further is at risk of being excluded/ cancelled for not being pro-trans enough.
