But is that 'JKR is mean' in the American sense, i.e. nasty, which is a matter of opinion, or is that 'JKR is mean' in the UK/Irl sense, i.e. stingy, which is easily disproved by her hugely generous funding of women's and children's causes😁

I am on over 1700 days on Duolingo but this will definitely make me stop and remove the App. I wonder what is the best way to make it known that this is why, rather than other reasons such as being busy or not interested.

Was this in one of the paid for versions? There's one you can have AI generated conversations with.

I've used the free version, French, and all the Harry Potter stuff wasn't critical. Though come to think of it I've not seen one of those for ages.

I think I've got all I can out of Duo for French. This might be the push I need to find something else that will help me improve. I think I'm just plateauing.

WTAF? I don't like the way DuoLingo works anyway, I use other language apps, but this is just batshit! Why do I need to know how to say "leather trousers" and "whips" abroad?! I'm going on holiday not retraining as a late 19th century cowboy!

And why would I want/need to express someone else's opinion on JKR, when I wouldn't have the necessary vocab to actually discuss the topic, given that I'd bet money GC, TRA, the UK EA2010, single sex spaces, and Supreme Court Ruling are not in the approved vocabulary list.

Ive seen that one in a different language, there’s also one that was “draw me like a Japanese princess” which amused me and I have a screenshot of. Imagining some anime lover tech bloke.

Why do they think the Supreme Court objects to same sex relationships? The judgment explicitly defends the rights of lesbians to be exclusively same sex attracted.

You'd think a big brand like Duolingo might read the judgment and make sure they understand WTF it is actually about before calling out the Supreme Court on Twitter.

I'm on a 435 day streak but I'm starting to feel a bit bored and harassed by the daily notifications so maybe this is my cue to delete the app.

This is really shitty. My son has been using this, we will find something else for him. I am not interested in their opinions and I’m certainly not paying for them.

I'm already pissed off with Duolingo for the battery thing replacing hearts, this could be the last straw.

Not free (sorry) but very effective and gives money to the people (always women in my case) in the countries they live. italki. Live lessons online.

I learned a very obscure language, travelled to the country, had lots of fun with my lovely teacher. Taught me all about culture as well as language.

Gemein in German means nasty mean, not stingy mean. I did a degree in German many years ago and gemein is definitely used very pejoratively in this context.
